The Spice Girls are back together recording a song , hoping it will be this year's Christmas No 1.
I predict we will have Cliff Richard, Take That and the Spice Girls all battling it out then some ridiculous Timmy Mallet meets Mr blobby will come along and pip them at the post.

What do you think? Answers of 'i couldn't care less' not necessary.

Ah, the old 'sponsored by the Inland Revenue' comeback single!
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

The mind boggles. If we're owning up to embarrassing music buys I will admit to buying Dancing Queen (more than thiry years ago though!)

At a recent car boot sale, my daughter could not sell her Spice Girls CD for even 20p!!!

Ok I admit to having the entire collection of Now that's what I call Music right from the first one. Obviously a lot of them are records not cd's.

The Spice Girls never did it for me.  I'm very much a Girls Aloud bloke especially when they do the St. Trinian's thing.
Oldspice - Don't be embarrassed by owning Dancing Queen, I have it too. Anything by Abba is top hole if you ask me.

I only bought Dancing Queen. Abba is too pure for me. For music to really move me it has to come with some human experience (Blues, Folk) or be clever and ad lib (Jazz) or be deep and stirring (Mahler, Mozart etc) or have a raw, urban edge (Rolling Stones, Clash, The Animals) or just be clever pop (Beatles, Beach Boys).

I find Abba a bit over-produced. They have a perfect studio sound that i find a bit sterile.

I agree with that.  I would much rather a rough performance with raw emotion over an overproduced, polished, sickly sweet studio recording.

Now, for The Carpenters I will make an exception. Karen Carpenter singing Rainy Days and Mondays or Superstar is very moving and her voice is almost as pure as Joan Baez.
