It started in Nottingham about 8 o'clock but it was very fine and turned into what looked like dandruff by about 11 o'clock and any that had fallen had all gone by dinner time.  I don't like snow so can't say I'm disappointed.  However, many of the schools had been closed after the forecast, which would be a lame excuse to somehow weave schoolgirls in to this post but I will resist the temptation and keep it to snow.  The snow that did fall was that soggy, icy snow, which is useless for making snowballs.

We had quite a lot of snow here in Peterborough. It started at about 7.30am and continued all day until about 4pm. The college where I work sent all the younger, full-time students home at 2pm because many of them come on college buses from remote outlying villages and it was feared that if the snow got really bad they would be stranded in the wilds of the Fens. Some staff and students didn't make it in at all because they come from further down the A1 where it was very bad.

My daughter, fifty miles away in Northampton, had five or six inches of snow and all of her lectures were cancelled.

Old but spicey!

Is Northampton 50 miles from Peterborough?

It's a little over fifty miles. We counted 56 miles from my daughter's campus at Sixfields to our home in Dogsthorpe.

This gives me an idea for a story.  Lecture cancelled - Uni girl gets bus - bus breaks down - girl has to walk - naughty teacher comes along in snowmobile - offers lift - takes her back to his impromptu igloo for some icy fun!

Here on Anglesey we had about half a centimeter of snow this  morning and they cancelled school and my daughters guide meeting this evening.

What can I tell you? Even the smallest amount of snow causes mayhem and panic here! Coming from around the Yorkshire Dales as I do, where 6 foot drifts were a common occurence (at least once almost every year) this makes no sense to me. But snow is very rare here and I suppose what you're not used to.......... Ah well, I am sure I would find driving in Yorkshire snow difficult now after all this time.

Over on the mainland there is quite a lot of snowfall each year, I'm not that far from Snowdon really, only about 30 miles, but on this end of the island there is hardly any. It's a bit odd really as you go further down the island the snow gets heavier and heavier the closer to the mainland you get. Most peculiar to see.
