Do you think celebs are getting too thin and setting a bad example?

British
Hollywood star Kate Winslet said this week that the current trend for
actresses and models to be a tiny "size zero" was "unbelievably
disturbing".

The Oscar-nominated actress said she
refused to have any magazines showing skinny stars in her house because
of the damaging effect it could have on her six-year-old daughter. And
she hoped that "in some small way" her success would show girls they
did not need to be thin to find happiness.

Speaking
to the BBC’s Andrew Marr, the Titanic star said: "It is unbelievably
disturbing what's going on at the moment." And while she did not want
to point fingers or sound like a hypocrite, she added: "It's so
disturbing because young girls are impressionable from 11 up to 19 or
20 even, women are very impressionable at those ages.

I think being too thin looks ugly. Calista Flockhart went so thin that she looked twice her age and Victoria Beckhams arms are so thin they could easily snap. It can't be healthy for the body to be so stick insect thin.

If Kate Winslet is so worried about proving you don't have to be thin to be happy, why did she lose all that weight a few years back?

Whilst I dod feel that some celebs pose a poor role model to young girls and boys, it's not the responsibility of celebs to live people's life for them. People have a mind of their own and must listen to their own bodies and make their own minds up.

That's true, but for many teenagers looking through magazines with stick thin celebs, what are they meant to think? They're too young to understand that copying off celebs isn't a good idea.

Yes I do.

I have to be very careful what I say about weight and size and things like that, with an almost teenage daughter in my house she listens to every criticism and comment about how people look.

It is quite scary how vulnerable to these things children are, and it's happening at an earlier and earlier age too.

She weighs herself every couple of weeks, but she has a healthy appetite and whilst she is careful about what she eats, (few crisps and biscuits and plenty of fruit) she will eat enough of the things she does eat that I am not worried about her. Her diet is as healthy as I can make it, (she's vegetarian like me) lots of fruit and veg and things like milk and yoghurt, and although she's not too fond of exercise she loves to swim so she's not a couch potato.

I have told her that a nice balanced weight is what she should aim for. Overweight is not good, but I don't want her to look like something we would throw for the dog.

I think lorri is right, Victoria looks way too thin, and it does age you to be so thin. Also someone ought to mention that putting a tan onto thin-ness like that does not help. In fact being brown aswell simply makes you look more like a stick than ever!

Is that Penelope Cruz in that last picture?

I agree some of the most beautiful women are curvy - look at Catherine Zeta Jones, or Sophia Loren in her heyday.
