that's what i plumbed for too but the majority of customers we have asked have said it is minstrels because maltesers' slogan was'lighter than ordinary chocolate.  never mind I'll tell my staff I was right and win the pool!!

I've had a whip round here and people are convincing themselves its minstrels, it makes logical sense as they have a hard shell, but I'm still convinced that 'melts in your mouth...' was malteasers slogan before they invented the 'lighter than ordinary chocolate' one.
They're both made by Mars UK though!

thats just a freaky coincidence.  we now think it is M&M's actually because a CNN site referred to a Jackie chan movie saying it is like M&M's because it melts on the screen and not in your head or something.  anyone know how i can get hold of mars to find out?

It might be M&Ms in America but here it was Minstels, for sure.  The shell doesn't melt in your hand I suppose being the point, although why that would make you buy them I don't know.

OK, you're all wrong!  This slogan was originally developed for Treets.  The name was changed to Minstrels in the '70's but they were originally called Treets - the chocolates that melt in your mouth, not in your hand!

In fact I think there was a forerunner to Minstrels, or they changed their name to Minstrels, something like that, but whatever was before was the one

Minstrels were advertised as 'melts in your mouth not in your hand'. Treets were also advertised with this slogan. The new name for treets is M & M's. M & M's American advertising uses this slogan as well.

I hoped this might help me as my boyfriend and I are having the same argument - we have asked around the consensus is defiantely either M and M's or minstrels - whoever says Malteasers must be nuts - chocolate coating not melting in your hand!! Go to  www.marsfundraising.com and you'll see proof for M&M's

It was definately Minstrels - with the groovy teenage couples driving off for a fun day in the sun, sharing around their Minstrels - which actually DID melt in the hand as well as the mouth...mmm groovy!

I remember the song: "Milk chocolate Minstrels made to enjoy anywhere...anytime you want to...Enjoy the taste whatever the place put 'em to the test - no mess - enjoy Minstrels anywhere...Wherever you are whatever you do...take a pack along with you...milk chocolate Minstrels made to enjoy...any-where""

To my reckoning its minstrels. Because they have that crispy coating that stops them from melting
