If you were to get a box of chocs as a gift , which ones would yu like to receive most? Only alowed to choose something that is available now so don't all say Weekend and Biarritz.
-
Forgot to say my choice would be Dairy Box.
-
Bendick's Mingles.
-
There isn't one. Boxes of chocolates are cheap and tacky.
-
I think I would choose Dairy Box too - or Black Magic.
-
Thornton's Continentals for me!
-
I like Dairy Box too - at around £5 per box I certainly do not consider them to be cheap though! Tacky? Only if stored in a warm place, and I prefer the word "sticky"
-
I would say Roses or Quality Street as my main choice.
And Neoplotians. Sorry if that is spelt wrong. Made by Terry's. About 6 different chocolate squares in a box and you actually get quite a lot in there!
-
There isn't one. Boxes of chocolates are cheap and tacky.
That's so sad.
-
I would say Roses or Quality Street to im not quite sure wot one tho
-
I am not sure which one I would choose either. But I know I would choose one of them over all the others!
-
Yup defenatly but the question is wots your favorite quality street choc mine is strawberry cream
-
The chocolate toffee one.
-
The purple one.
-
Have u seen in Woolworths they have 'The Big Purple One' back. Along with the green triangle and the toffee one
-
Sorry Lou Lou, I just meant that boxes of chocolate tend not to be of the highest quality. I like to select from here and there.
-
bounty i will buy you 10 boxes of different chocs and out of them you should be able to put together a box of all the ones you like.
-
I'll take the chocolates that he doesn't pick!
-
The Galaxy Silk Collection look nice. All caramel/toffee ones I believe?
-
im not 100% sure that it counts as a box of chocs but i like after eights
-
I like Dairy Box. Beats Milk Tray any day!
-
I love Rose and Violet Creams but they only come in titchy boxes and are not widely available.
-
I haven't had those Galaxy silk collection but they sound like something i would like if they are toffees and nuts.
-
Oops i misread..no mention of nuts, just toffee/caramel. Nuts was just me wishful thinking again.
-
Are you a nut fan lou lou? I think its toffee/caramal chocs that are in Galaxy Silk Collection. I haven't had a box myself, it just seems to ring a bell. Might find out at Christmas!
-
Yes choc chick I love anything nutty or toffee.I am easy pleased. The only things I avoid are coffee choc and white choc.
-
Have you tried the c'dor range that is full of nuts? I've seen them in my local sweet shop.
-
Ive tried dem nuts n there not realy n e think special
-
Anything I don't like gets donated to my boyfreind or dad! They love me for it!
-
No i haven't tried those.
-
I like hazelnuts and almonds but not peanuts, walnuts or brazils.
-
Brazils are nice in dark chocolate.
-
I find brazils a bit oily.
-
I would probably go for the Marks & Spencer chocs that come in a red box. They have a good variety of chocs in them.
-
They are lovely chocs bunny! I agree totoally!
-
I have heard that those are made by Thorntons but I don't know for sure. I bought some for my mum last Christmas and she said they were delicious.
-
They really are! Its about the only box that I like all of them.
-
I forgot about those but I like those M&S chocs in the red box too.
-
M&S are onto a winner with those. I had a few boxes last christmas from the people from work. They were greatly received.
-
They were also on special offer about this time last year. Must pop in and see if they're doing the same this year.
-
Have you tried those M&S chocs that you can put in the freezer goldencup? Have a look next time you are in there. They have intrigued me.
-
No I haven't seen those. Thanks for that CC, another thing to look out for and try!
-
You can eat them 3 ways. Normally, chilled from the fridge, or chilled from the freezer!
-
WOW Where can you buy them
-
Marks and Spencer
-
Thanks cc in your opinion wots da best way 2 eat tham
-
I dont know. I haven't tried them yet.
-
When I was in the pound shop at the weeeknd I see a bag of Dove Swirls!
-
After Eight chocolates are the finest after-dinner mint you can ever buy. The delicate mint wafers are covered entirly in dark lucious chocolate and melt slowly in your mouth. Truly irresistable!
-
Who agrees

They left you not speechless, just with poor grammar!
-
When I am in the poundshop at the weeekend I see a bag of Crunchie bars.
-
-
I thought we agreed not to be picky about spellings and grammar anymore.

It's never wrong to be picky about spelling and grammar! (But then again I am a copywriter so if I wasn't picky, I'd be unemployed...
Back to topic - does anyone remember Harlequin chocolates? They were like a poor man's Roses. There was always a bit of a hierarchy when it came to chocs at Christmas - Roses are best, Quality Street second, then Harlequin at the bottom of the pile.
When did they get rid of Biarritz?
-
As a teacher whose job includes teaching correct spelling and grammar, I have come to the conclusion that it's a matter of time and place. In an informal setting like the forum, casual spelling and grammar is like a form of casual speech.
However, if someone is being picky or nasty about other aspects of people's postings (as was the case recently) their own postings are likely to come under scrutiny, including their spelling and grammar.
-
Y care bout spellin n grammer!!!!!!!!!!
-
Many concerns about grammar are in fact relating to semantics rather than grammar. I am something of a grammar pedant, although I agree with Spicy that in a situation like this it's usually not important.
I say usually, as just ocassionally bad grammar and punctuation can lead to misunderstandings.
-
Ha! I assume 'ocassionally' was a trap then, in which case I fell for it! Did you see the programme about the Broads last night? Great stuff.
-
I wasn't being nasty, possibly picky. Choc chick's post just made me laugh.
-
I LOVE CHOCOLATE
-
Aveit, spelling and grammar does sometimes matter. For example, did you know that nine out of ten job applications sent in by young people are rejected within first glance because of basic spelling and grammar errors?
-
sorry guys. I didn't check before I posted.
-
That's true in some cases, no doubt Spicey. Never the less I work for a large international company employing 4,000 people with a turn over of £125 million and they will employ anyone, even if they are semi literate. It largely depends on what job they are expected to do. Some jobs, i.e automated picking, require next to no literacy skills.
-
I am very picky about spellings but promise not to pick anymore.
Bad handwriting is worse than bad spelling and as we can only type on here i can't tell who is a neat writer and who isn't.
-
My handwriting is atrocious -- the original spider that's stepped in a bottle of ink.
-
bounty do you write like a doctor?
-
I don't think spelling and grammar are important on the Forum but I would not like young people to think it does not matter at all. People with low literacy and numeracy skills generally earn less and their children are generally more likely to have lower skills themselves and thus a low income and so it goes on.
-
But how do you encourage the lower classes to take a greater interest in education, when it's so uncool? Surely we have to accept that the poverty of choice is always going to be there.
-
With respect Bounty, please do not confuse low levels of literacy with class. Of course, it is true that people with poor literacy skills are more likely to come from the so-called lower classes - but it is not always a matter of choice but opportunity and access. It's an enormously complex issue, and one that is currently being tackled by the government.
Anyway, back to chocolate - I saw KitKat Blood Orange in Woolies today but resisted the urge to buy one. Actually, there was no urge if I'm honest.
-
It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure I fancy eating anything with 'blood' in the name...
-
Thanks Spicey, the correlation to which you elude is of course what I meant, not that to be in the lower classes automatically confers poor literacy.
-
-
Bounty, your syntax is wonderful.
