Title: Chocolate wars
Post by: on September 19, 2004, 09:33:08 pm

I must say I am disappointed by Mars lack of effort in the Nestle Vs Cadbury.

Are they waiting to pick from the spoils of the battle of the big two?

Mars are a VERY strange company.  I think  that they have no interest in engaging in the battle.  The latest gauntlet laid down by Nestle with the various KitKats is more than matched by the Cadbury's Dairy Milk which I think is a better brand and more eassily adapted.  A KitKat is a KitKat and just seems gimmicky when you mes with it.  I think so far the score is Cadbury's 2 Nestle 1.

Well, frankly, I find most of the 'new' Cadbury products very dull.

We need more imaginative ingredients rather than ' we can do what you do'

What will be the next big thing?

I hear what you say, but I think simple is best.  The Cadbury's Dairy Milk Wafer just oozes Bar Sixness, which makes it a winner for me.

Yes, but what was wrong with a Bar Six?

Nothing.  But, the chocolate authorities are so blinkered, they can't accept that we might want to drive product desing.  Cadbury's and Nesatle must set the trends

Mars did try to enter the chocolate war with their Mars Delight which I found bland, boring and far too sickly. I loved Bar Sixes and was annoyed to see them axed. Cadbury Wafter is similar.

I think Mars Delight is pants.

I like them!  But they are overpriced.  My brother-in-law does promotions for Mars and I had tons free when they first came out.  They do get a bit sickly after the first ten or so....

I agree that Cadbury are winning. Dairy Milk is a lovely chocolate brand and will sell no matter what you stick inside it. As for the KitKats, well the lemon and lime ones are just wrong! Nestle should be using a 'better' product of theirs if they want to turn things around.

BTW I think Mars are doing battle 'underground', they are probably planning something for the coming year. Although they haven't added nearly as many products as Nestle and Cadbury have to their product ranges.

Personally, I find Nestle choc in it's original form to be far superior to anything Cadbury produce.

Hmm is it Double Cream, or Yorkie that you like so much? Or just any Nestle (cooking) chocolate?

Now, now Kevvosa, don't be so disparaging of ALL Nestle products. I mean, it's not as if Cadbury can take the moral high ground over the quality of their chocolate.

Besides, I like Scotbloc [mmmmmmmmm, greasy]

I do like a lot of Nestle products (their white chocolate is one of the
best) and Double Cream is good also...but when it comes to things like
Toffee Crisp, it tastes awful.

Actually today I had a Yorkie Raisin & biscuit, I hadnt had one for
ages so thought I'd try it. It was horrible - the chocolate has changed
and tasted very cheap and nasty.

Yorkie chocolate really is the bottom of the barrel in chocolate stakes.  Toffee crisp - well.......

Actually got round to eating a Seville orange KitKat.  A little bit sickly, but I was impressed by the topping, which really did taste of Seville oranges.  I much prefer the toffee one.

I think they must use Chivers shredless 'Old English' marmalade for it!

Yes Lou Lou, the Skuas are a nasty bunch of seabirds, distant relatives of Gulls they are pirates of the sea, chasing other birds ragged until the victim is so exhausted and nervous it  regugitates it's stomach contents, which the Skua gobbles up - 'free dinner'.  This one is the smallest of the species that appear in this neck of the woods.
