Title: Newbie here who wants to say hi!
Post by: Max Morriss on October 03, 2010, 09:39:37 pm
Hi all!
I take it that most of you are not from the States, and as such, your chocolate beats the pants off of ours :D
But I would love to pick your brains and really become part of the mesh of this community, it seems like my kind of crowd!

Welcome to the site. Being in America all you have to realise is how bad most Hershey chocolate is :)
There are a few american bars on the site you can vote on or review (or link to your own reviews) - I think searching for USA will find the USA variants of products.
If you're serious about reviewing chocolate (based on my knowledge of what you can get in the States), I'd suggest trying a variety of Lindt products (some are better than others) and Valrhona if you can get it. Although that's not to say there isn't always a place for Mars and Nestle products :P

It's funny you should mention Lindt, because I just recently review a Lindt White Coconut bar just yesterday!
The texture of it was incredible, that nice blend of crunch and smoothness, I never would have expected it.

I do import a lot of chocolate though, just the other day I tried a Time Out bar for the first time.
After eating that, I can never go back the Twix Bars I once hailed so much, that Time Out bar was simply on a whole other level!

Hi Frickfrock and welcome.

I have to say that although American chocolate doesn't seem to taste as good as that in the UK - I have to give you all full marks for the range of chocolate bars and fillings you have over there.

I also applaud you for your abundant use of cinnamon! I adore the stuff and can't get enough cinnamon type candy stuff (hard candy rather than chocolate based though).

Look forward to chatting with you!

Welcome Frickfrock - just don't mention cinnamon to me though, I hate it!  I love the sound of that Lindt White Coconut bar - haven't seen it here yet.  Good to have some input from somebody across the pond.

Are they not regarded well in the UK? People go crazy for them here!

Easily done.  The Mast Brothers apparently have some of the best chocolate in the US, although it is expensive.  I've yet to try some, but I know it's held in high regard.
