we usually have a thread about this, so i thought i'd start it this year. is anyone watching? personally, i am avoiding it like the plague this year. i was so disappointed by last years show that i actually felt ill watching it... what with the lack of talent on display, jedward and the stage auditions... and when they introduced the sunday results show i wondered seriously just why i was wasting so much time watching it. so i'm boycotting simon cowell this year.
who's with me?!
-
Me! I'd already made exactly the same decision.
-
yay! we stand united!
-
Well I did look in on last night's show - simply because I was stripping the bed and dusting upstairs and it's so boring doing that with nothing to watch or listen to. It was the usual stuff - some truly tragic auditions and one or two that really stood out. There was one girl in particular called Cher who will go a long way.
-
I never, never, NEVER watch vacuous crap like this. I cannot believe just how much people want to be famous; there's more to life than that.
-
There were two horrendous girls on last night. They managed to piss off the audience and the judges in seconds, then turned on each other when they realised it had all gone wrong (one actually punched the other on stage). And as it probably won't surprise you to know, they were talentless and ugly as sin.
-
Three acts really stood out for me tonight. The first was the 16 year old who was rejected by Simon and the violently blonde girl (haven't a clue who she was - sorry to show my igonrance) but who was finally pushed through because the giorl was persuaded to change her min by Louis. The second act that impressed me was the Italian boy and the final one was the black boy who returned at the end. He was fantastic.
-
well, i hear the live finals start very soon... and i am pleased to say i haven't seen one second of this dross this year. my life feels a little fuller somehow.
-
Seconded. I never watch it anyway.
-
I was outraged that Gamu went out! Cheryl has f**ked up big time there!
-
Agreed - no way should that pound-shop version of Gwen Stefani have got through instead of Gamu. However, there's going to be a 'wildcard' entry from each category on Saturday (I presume there will be a public vote) so she could be back...
-
I was also surprised that the two gay guys went out Diva fever or something? I thought they were quite talented and a bit different. I hope you're right about the wildcard thing.
-
I like Diva Fever and sorry to see them go on sunday. Glad to see the back of Storm. Hate Katie and Cher (FREAK) . Boy band drives me mad (hate kids singing love songs). Love Love Love Matt. Love Rebecca but why do they dress her stupid and whats with the dark purple lippy last week. Like but not love Mary. Whats the point in wagner? I say scrap it all now and let Matt win. Oh and yeah every week Danni looks much nicer than that Cheryl the Heaton whore.
-
I thought the right people went on Sunday. Storm is an okay singer but to make it at 37 you have to be amazing. Diva Fever are realistically a decent novelty act who just didn't have winning potential. Wagner will survive another couple of weeks because ever year there's a rubbish/weird act that people vote for to annoy Simon, before getting bored of them about four or five weeks in.
-
I thought Diva Fever camped it up just a bit too much and might have done better had they been a bit more serious. I am amazed Wagner didn't go out. I would have got rid of him and given VF another chance. Rebecca still edges it for me, with TreyC a close second.
-
Wagner and katie need to go tonight.
-
No, I think it should be Wagner and Aiden. Aiden absolutely butchered Thriller; it was truly awful. Rebecca was up to her normal high standard. Mary was sort of OK but still annoys me. Cher was astonishingly good!!! The rest were all OK.
-
I can't say I'll miss Belle Amie; I could never get away from the idea that they were four fairly average soloists who didn't really want to be in a group, but took the option they were given. Also it's hard to take a band with the same name as a porn studio seriously.
I think Wagner's probably got another week to go before the voters get bored with annoying Simon. Cher did herself a lot of good by doing a ballad - her raps and mash-ups are all very well, but the winner's song is always a ballad with a big key change; she needs to prove she can deliver with that kind of material too. I don't have a particular favourite but Rebecca is looking like an increasingly strong candidate to win.
-
(i'm so glad i've stayed out of it all this year. john cage's 4'33'' for xmas number 1!)
-
Well if an X Factor Song (however bad) stops Cliff Richard being number 1 at Christmas I'm all for it!
-
i'm rooting for cliff.
-
I think we should all download Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. Oh, yes!
-
i believe that one was in the running this year, dr.t, until the masses settled on john cage (which if it beats x factor will be simply HILARIOUS!)
-
It was a bit of a weak show last night I thought. Rebecca stood out - yet again. One Direction were good I suppose if you like that sort of thing.
Wagner is this year's Jedward. He shouldn't be there at all. He is only there as a desperate wild card. While ever he remains a genuine singer will go, which isn't right. I would also like to see Mary go, who is out of her depth.
-
Katie's sing-off performances get more desperate each week; she ends up shouting and practically begging to stay. It's cringeworthy. Who knew there were so many 'give me another chance' type songs to pick from?
Louis made the wrong decision sending Treyc home. She's been let down by the song choices for the last couple of weeks; when she performed 'One' and 'Purple Rain' she was fantastic.
-
I'm stunned at last night's result. I wasn't that surprised to see Aidan in the bottom two; despite the judges' praise, I really didn't think his 'Rocket Man' worked. But he's miles better than Katie and I was convinced she'd have polled the lowest votes.
I can only believe Simon continues to save her because she generates headlines, but keep her in much longer it could backfire.
-
Matt Cardle in a vest? No, just... no.
-
..although Louis looks as if he was born to wear a vest
-
:D
-
Everyone given up watching then?
-
Yes - I got into Strictly Come Clumping (in Widdie's case) and lost interest in X Factor. Is the nice black boy still in it?
-
No, sadly; he was up against Cher in the sing-off a couple of weeks back and she won. Cher was in the bottom two again on Sunday but beat Mary to a place in the final. Rebecca is my favourite of the remaining contestants.
-
That's a shame. I'm out this weekend so probably won't see X Factor or Strictly.
-
You'll probably see your IQ go up!
-
Rebecca is my favourite of the remaining contestants.
Mine too. I can't see what so many people like about Cher or One Direction.
-
So it's Matt then - a decent but ultimately uninspiring singer in my eyes. Glad Cher went first in the final - cocky little madam.
-
i can happily say i missed every minute of x-factor this year. well done me!
-
I can happily say that I never watch X Factor and never will. Simon Cowell represents everything that is reprehensible about the music industry today.
