Title: Werther's Chocolates
Post by: smurfboy on February 24, 2010, 03:27:48 pm
From the people who brought you Werther's Original sweets - available in milk and dark varieties, and with a chocolate caramel sub-variety. The chocolates are the same shape as a Werther's Original and have a marbled effect from a swirl that's supposed to provide the Werther's flavour.

I tried the Dark first and while I wouldn't say the Werther's taste was that strong, they're still pretty delish in my book. However, if you're heavily into dark choc you might be disappointed - the 42% cocoa makes them taste more like high quality milk chocs (which is no bad thing if that's what you like). The Milk variety boast 28% cocoa solids; I haven't tried them yet, but I'm not expecting a major difference flavour-wise.

The caramels have no relation to a Werther's Original whatsoever apart from the name - it's a pure cash-in. But these doesn't bother me in the slightest because they're lovely  :P If you miss Galaxy Swirls, these will be right up your street.

A bit expensive at around £1.80 - £2.50 a bag depending on where you shop, but currently on special at Tesco for just 99p  8)

I've tried the milk chocolate and loved them.  I had the caramel ones (or something very similar) a couple of years ago in the USA so I've been hoping for some time that they'd appear here.

I've now tried the milk too; overall I think I prefer the dark, but it's a close call.

I like the milk ones best, they are lovely.
I was wondering why they'd given them such a waxy texture but I suppose it's to make them authentically 'Werthers' (I've always found Werther's Originals somewhat waxy)

You must.  I recommend a bag each of milk chocolate and caramel ones.  To start with.

Ive just tried the new addition to the range, the "caramelts". They're like little Worthers shaped balls of Caramac, well nice.
Worthers are really tring to shake the old grandad image, or being branded "paedo pellets".

Paedo pellets! :D

If they taste anything like Caramac, I'm outta here!  Vile stuff!

Is caramac a laxative?

Lou, it's you!  Caramac's vomit inducing, let alone a laxative!
