Title: M&S pick-n-mix and new bars
Post by: oldspice on September 19, 2009, 11:12:06 am
I've been in M&S this morning and they now have a pick-n-mix section where you can fill a small (£1.99) or large (£3.99) carton with a great range of sweets such as small fruit jellies, mini Percy Pigs, chocolate balls, shrimps, dolly mixtures and some wrapped sweets such as sherbert lemons. I filled a £3.99 carton to the brim and you get loads and loads for the money.

Also, they had some new truffle bars at the till - with a mix of truffle and fondant filling!! I picked up two orange ones.

Boy I'm going to gt fat!

Mmmmmm Percy Pigs!  Yes the Walnut Whips are good, as long as you like Galaxy-style chocolate.  That's what they remind me of anyway.

Yes, i saw these 'grab and go' packs as weel. They're small, see-through packs of sweets like cola cubes, rhubarb and custard, jelly babies etc.

I wouldn't have considered the Peterborough branch of M&S as a 'flagship' store as I think their range is very restricted compared to branches in much bigger cities such as Leicester and Nottingham.

Then maybe I will go back to them and enquire a bit more

Hello everyone

My name is Cassandra, new to the forum. My favorites are retro sweets and I'm hoping we could exchange ideas. It was so hard to choose what to spend your pocket money on. One time, the lovely lady behind the counter never approached me, I think that she knew that the choosing process was one of the joys of buying traditional sweets. I used to stand there looking in awe at all of the options - deciding what would go into my paper bag. And then, just as I was about to commit, a different old-fashioned sweet would catch my eye and I'd change my mind again. It's great being a child in a retro sweetshop - but it makes deciding so very difficult.

I love Tom Thumb drops and used to leave the sweet shop with a big bag of them.  Oh, and sherbert flying saucers; they're not the same these days.

When I was little my mum told me that flying saucers were what priests put on peoples' tongues at holy communion!

I always left the sweet shop with jelly bears. They were 2 for 1p and I usually managed to get away with loads more than 50p's worth because the shop assistants couldn't be bothered to count them.

Back in the day they just seemed to fill your bag and they didn't care if the weight went over a bit.

Yes, McDonalds and Burger King are the devil's spawn.  We had a Wimpy in Dartford in the 70's that sold proper fast food.  It even smelled nice!  Still, fast food doesn't make people obese, people make people obese. ;)
