So this man David Elliman, has done time for interfering with children and has been let out on care in the community on licence. While he was out has been grooming children for goodness knows what. He's been sent back to prison and... wait for it... wont be elligible for parole for two years. WHAT?!!!! Why? Why ever? Two years??? NO!!!! Why was he even out at all? Some one explain why two years, before I break something.

The man should be castrated.
-
Justice is a funny thing. Still, the bloke needs some serious psychological help.
-
ah, a good old 'hang the paedophile' rant - this MUST be the REAL bounty!

I don't believe in the death penalty, but protection of our children should be a maximum priority and prosecuted at all costs. Anyone involved in child abuse should not be free. It's that simple.
-
INDEED! well said, that man!
-
I believe in the death penalty if we can be 100% certain we are killing the right person.
-
that's the trick though, isn't it? there's a lot of innocent people out there behind bars.

Then you'll never get the death penalty, it just can't be 100%. I don't believe in it anyway, there's already too much death on this planet.

Agreed, but something has to be done to these people (mainly men) who abuse children. We keep letting them out and they just re-offend. I don't understand how someone can be sexually interested in pre-dolescent children, but there is obviously those that are. We as a society need to face up to this and deal with it. If these people chose to act upon their feelings and I include downloading images in 'acting upon it', then they should face the consequences.
The other side effect of this inability of our society to deal with the problem effectively has been to introduce paranoia when it comes to innocent images of children. I believe this has grown out of a public uncertainty and lack of confidence in the judiciary. There is a tendency for people to think that while the perverts are out there we have to be paranoid about protecting children from innocent attention. This is almost uniquely a British problem. You can openly and freely photograph children in Europe without anyone so much as raising an eyebrow - and that's how it should be. Children are naturally photogenic. I will not vote at the next general election unless one of the parties make this a major manifesto issue.

indeed. i went to a kids nativity play a couple of years ago. before it started, the headmaster came out and told everyone with cameras to ONLY take pictures/film their own child/ren, and that anyone caught doing otherwise would be asked to leave. a deathly hush fell on the crowd and it instantly 'scare-mongered' every one. how the hell are you meant to take pics of one kid with everyone on stage at the same time?
i hate the media/general publics attitude towards perverts, who insist there is a paedophile lurking behind every hedge and in every park. and i hate all this new age political correctness b*llocks. when you get the two together it REALLY irritates the living hell out of me!
-
That is like when you want to take pictures in the park and you have to chuck all the kids of the swings and slides before you can.
-
i used to film everything once upon a time... now i'm too afraid to take the camera anywhere. you seriously get very judgemental looks for pointing it anywhere these days.
-
This year I went to my nieces' dance show, where lots of other kids were performing. Before the show started a man came on and said 'owing to child protection laws no filming on cameras or mobile phones is permitted.' How is this protecting children? You protect children by making sure the child abusers stay locked up. The law is simply wrong. Rather than tackle the problem of child abuse effectively it has introduced a culture of political correctness. Every MP in the land should hang their head in shame for not addressing this issue. I will write to Gordon Brown and let you know how I get on.

When I was in Ibiza last year, I remarked about the kids in the pool having fun. My wife told me to be quiet because people were staring at me. I cannot believe it's come to this.
-
You need to resist the paranoia Dr. Like I said, the rest of Europe doesn't have to suffer this. I recently had an argument witrh a colleague who thought it was wrong for the BBC cameras to focus on kids betwen shots at a golf tounament. I mean why not? They look nice. He is wrong and so is your wife (if you don't mind me saying.)
-
I just think my wife didn't want any trouble. I'll have to watch where I point my camera on my next holiday (which is next week, as it happens :) )
-
