Title: BBC is to go on strike!
Post by: Forth Bridges on March 30, 2009, 10:05:31 am
So Cheap films and fillers

BBC journalists have voted for two days of industrial action, over the Corporation's plans for compulsory redundancies. Just over one third of the BBC's 4,000 journalists took part in a ballot, organised by the National Union of Journalists. Union members voted 77 per cent in favour of strike action. BBC TV, radio and online news services are expected to be disrupted by the strike action, scheduled to take place on April 03 2009 and April 09 2009.

Those believed to be affected by the threat of compulsory cuts include staff at the BBC World Service South Asian section, where twenty positions are understood to be under threat; further job losses are also in the pipeline at BBC Scotland.

Thing is, why do they need 4,000 journalists in the first place!

You got more chance of winning the 3:30 at Lingfield if you backed the one with three wooden legs.

Take the odds. If you have a nice 10-1 or 8-1 it can easily fall to 5/4 and that can have a big impact on your winnings.

100-30 is better odds than 5/4. Its just thrown in to throw people, it will give yout £3.33 from a £1 bet but 5/4 only £1.25 from same £1 bet. If you have a 10/11 then the thing is favoured to romp it home or is the lame duck which is taking bets away from the real fave.

TBH you get better odds on a roulette wheel. A friend who like to gamble has never won big on the horses, most he's won to my knowledge is £350 on a horse race, £12,800 in Black Jack and Roulette.

As he puts it, horses is a mugs game.

After watching Eastenders last night and having a very upset Mum to deal with they can go on strike and f*ck off!  They have total contempt for their viewers.

I can't believe they killed Danielle off.  The poor actress has spent all this time playing a miserable teenager - I thought they'd give her a chance to be happy for a while.

I agree. Inflicting EastEnders on their viewers is showing total contempt.

and this is why you should watch Corrie ;)

I do watch Corrie, but I get fed up with that too. I like the humour (Blanche, Norris etc) but can't stand the boring, depthless characters such as Kevin, Michelle, Liz, Tony, Peter (love his cute son though) Dev (oh what a slime dog he is) and a whole bunch of others.

I do like Fizz, Chesney, Eileen, Julie, Kirk (to some extent), Steve, Loydd and some of the older characters.

i nearly went demented when Ken kept going to that woman on the boat and having long, saintly conversations about literature.

EastEnders?? My son sometimes watches it and some of the people at work do too but I don't bother with it much these days.

Yup, I can not understand why people get in to this mind numbing drivel. Fishwife TV I call it.

As well as that you can throw in all those ghastly chav programs like Jerry Springer, Montrell? Ricky Lake and all the UK variants of same sh*t. I even suffered the trauma of sitting through one of these shows to point out the professional hecklers in the audiance to a friends girlfriend because she didn't believe me that shows like that did things like that.

Three weeks later, a TV program about the "Professional Hecklers" was shown. I rest my suitcase.

Whatever happend to quality programming? Oh, thats right, they moved it to pay channels on cable & satilite TV.

Most of the programmes you mentioned (Jerry Springer, Riki Lake, Montrell) ARE on cable and satilite TV.

Yeah they may be but I am talking about "Quality" tv programming that USED to be on terestrial channels and non pay cable and satilite. This drivel of reality shows and whatever jerry & his crew go under the guise of is nothing more than Fishwife TV.

Thankfully herself does not watch that stuff, waste-of-space TV she calls it and quite rightly she say she would rather do something else with her time that is constructive.

Shame that chavs cant see those shows for what they are.

What we need is not more programs but less and that brings back the quality in programs.

Life used to be simpler, we had 4 channels before channel 5, if you wanted more, you went to the video shop.

Because of the lack of quality programming and the increase in licence fees, I got rid of my TV and all the stuff like cable and currently save myself over £1,000 a year. When you look at what your paying for, what it costs to run, what you pay for on pay-per-view film channels, your best off going old skool and watching what you want, when you want and not being pushed in to this constant mind sucking drivel thats pumped in to our living rooms.

When you take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Satilite TV, you pay what per month? to get bombarded with adverst that mint the companys like sky multibillion turnover alone and then they expect you to pay for it. ITV supports itself via advertising, why not companys like sky and Virgin media & co.?
