wjp666 have me this idea .
Has anyone got any weird phobias ? I have . I am terrified of second hand books so no library visits for me and also second hand shops.

i'm not sure it's strange, becasue a lot of people don't like creepy crawlies... but i can't look at more than one m*ggot at a time. one id just about okay, but more than one makes me want to pass out. and if there's a whole mass - YEESH! - that's too much! i hate them so much i can't even bring myself to say the word or even write it. (looking at still pictures is generally okay though.)
apart from that, toddlers with clammy, sticky hands touching me ranks pretty high too.

Tell me why I don't like Mondays?

I know a woman who has a phobia of buttons. That's a bizzare one, I mean - buttons?!
-
my mum can't look at submarines.

Heights. Weird thing is that I don't mind flying and I have been mountaineering. What I find is that I am OK say on a 3 floor apartment block but on the 18th of a tower block... Not so good, its as if I can "Really" feel the building swaying. Just thinking of it gives me palpitations.

I get a weird sense of relief every time I pass water.
-
anyone afraid of clowns? that one's been on the increase for years now, apparently.

It's quite common actually. Years after we met, my husband and I discovered that when we were young, we both had a button phobia. As a small child, my mum's button tin gave me the horrors. I still don't like certain kinds of buttons.
Actually, I have quite a few what are officially called 'anxieties'. Anything that takes me out of my routine is a huge difficulty for me which is why we never go for long holiday breaks. I can't cope for more than a few days.
-
i used to play for hours with my grandmothers button tin. it used to bring me so much joy.
does anyone under the age of 70 these days actually own a button tin?
-
Well my mam got sick of me asking her to sew things for me so she bought me a sewing basket and filled it with pins, needles, cottons etc. This was about a year ago and since I got it I have sewn nothing but managed to put around 50 buttons in it. I believe I am saving them for a time when I will need them but not sure when that is.
-
Well yes I do have a button tin but it only contains boring white shirt buttons as I have three men in my house who have to wear white shirts most of the time.
On the subject of phobias, I don't like looking at the front of boats/ships and find figureheads very spooky. I think I must have been mown down by a boat in a previous life!
-
That explains it then, perhaps in a previous life i was battered to death with a library book. ;)
-
Birds and moths :( both freak me out :o
-
I don't like moths either! Butterflies are just about Ok - but moths?? Yuk.
-
I have a phobia of politicians!

I used to be this way. I still have some anxieties now but they are not so bad as they were.
There was a TV show about phobias on ITV1 some time around Christmas. One woman I saw was scared of windmills. Another woman was scared of peas; she described how she believed peas were ganging up on her.
-
Sounds like she was a a couple of chunks short of a full bar!
-
Yep, not the full wrapper either...

Somebody should show her how to take the peas...............and throw them away!

Hey Cherry! Where have you been? I've missed you!
My anxieties seem to be getting worse. Years ago, when we were courting, hubby and I used to bomb around on his 1,000cc motorbike and I had fewer fears.
Just lately I have been having terrible dreams and I am haunted by things that scare me and people who have died and all sorts of horrible things. I think I've got a screw loose. It's either my age or my job.
-
seagulls. my gf is deathly afraid of seagulls.
-
Does she live in the same town as you then wjp? Not the best place for that phobia!
-
I have some seagulls nesting on my roof. I think they have come early this year. Their noise will be terrible and there's already seagull sh*t all over my front path. Once they get properly settled they will be trying to attack my dog when I take him out.

Hello Oldspice, it's nice to see you again. I've been lurking but just very busy. The message board went quiet for a while and I didn't really have much to say.
Anyway I am sorry to hear about your anxieties, as I mentioned, I used to suffer from these badly myself. I got to a stage where I couldn't go out of the house in the morning. But it is possible to conquer these problems. You do not have a screw loose! Maybe it is to do with your work, are you stressed there?

Buy a gun!
-
I was thinking of contacting the RSPCA and seeing if they could help.

yeah, we both live in sunny weymouth. it's absolutely SWARMING with the bloody things. she doesn't like bats either - and we get shed loads of them at night too. so she's quite nervous most of the time!
-
There was a spider on my bedroom wall last night and I couldn't go to bed til it was dead.
-
if you want to live and thrive, let a spider run alive. (so there.)
-
If you want a bit of fun, spray it with lacquer and watch it try and run!
-
I saved a spider just this morning. She was on the tumble dryer and was very, very big. I got a cardboard box and tapped her in and then set her free outside the house. Some of the spiders in this house have to be seen to be believed!
-
How do you know it was female?
-
Male spiders are small, female spiders are always large, thats how you tell.
-
Well done, netbuddy, and your karma is upped! There was one in our house and she was bigger than the diameter of your average mug! I wanted to pick her up but she ran away :(
-
Thanks netbuddy. Unfortunately as I am terrified of spiders they all seem huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge to me.
