Title: Beauty queen almost tanned to death
Post by: loulou on March 01, 2009, 04:41:38 pm
Brittany Lietz spent all her time perfecting her appearance for pageants, which included two and half hours per week on tanning machines.

But after developing stage two melanoma at 19, she had to undergo 30 operations to remove cancerous moles.

Have you ever been a sunbed or sun worshipper or do you not mind being pale?

I've never been near a sunbed. I am very fair skinned with fine blonde hair so I am careful not to burn in the sun.  As well as being a skin cancer risk, sun beds are very bad for ageing your skin. If you use them for more than two hours a week like this silly girl, if you don't get skin cancer, you will end up looking like an old kipper by the time you're 40.

I am fair skinned and blonde so like oldspice I burn easily. I have friends who used sunbeds who look a lot older than me now, their skins are all dry and leathery and nothing can disguise their wrinkles.

A wee touch of Guinness in the mix and you'll never see their wrinkles.

I used sunbeds a few times many years ago.  I always have a slight tan but use sunscreen and would never deliberately set out to get tanned.

I've got what is known in the trade as a Scottish Tan ;)  I am 99% Celt, 1% Roman (nose and ears), so my skin is Type 1 and the sun is my enemy.  On holiday, I'm the one under the parasol, soaking up the shade.  I use sun lotion so good, I could withstand a nuclear blast!

I worry about the effects of using too much sun lotion, or any other body lotions for that matter.  As it's absorbed through the skin, presumably it's going into the blood stream...

Yes, the skin is very good at absorbing all sorts. Some medications like some pain killers & other things like nicotine patches and so on are places on and absorbed by the skin.

I use Boots Sensitive, but even that is chemical hell!  At least I only have to use it a few times a year!
