Just wanted to share this story with you.
I am a member of friendsreunited. Anyone on there will know people can only contact you if they look you up, you don't just stumble across old friends unless they went to the same school or worked at the same place as you.
Thursday I received a message saying " Are you the same Louise who lived on the Durham road and I "dumped" you cos I didn't know what I wanted.
Firstly I want to know why he did that "" thing with the word dumped,and secondly how the hell he remembered my surname or me after a 4 week brief encounter.lol
Anyway he went on to say he was married with 3 kids and and life was perfect.
Who else thinks the same as me that you have to be a little sad in the head to look up exes 20 years on?

He obviously regretted 'dumping' you, but wants to show off he still did well. Sounds a bit self-obsessed to me if he seriously thinks you'll care that much.
On the surname thing, I'd probably remember it if I'd been out with them, but I've got a good memory for that sort of thing. Whether I'd use it to look someone up 20 years on and boast about my life is another matter!

i get some seriously obscure past acquaintances track me down on facebook (20 years plus etc.) it's incredible the impression you can leave oin someone without actually realising.

I have people contact me that I went to school with 30 years ago and I don't always remember them. I've stopped replying to any I do remember as the conversation always goes the same way. They will tell me they are happily married with 3 kids and 6 grandkids and as soon as I say I've never married or had kids they throw sympathy at me. "Oh you poor thing" gets said a lot which annoys me as I am very very happy with my life. Well apart from the fact that i never married a millionaire, learnt to play the piano or slept with George Clooney.:)

What gets me is the number of school'friends' I get requesting me who either a) barely spoke to me in all the years I was there or b) were vile to me. For people like that it's just a popularity contest. I get great pleasure from it if such people have gone fat/bald/both.

I get that a lot, people who had no time for me and were nasty to me at school write to me like we were once good friends.

Well, I know one of my exe's resides on Fiends Reunited. I'd never contact her in a million years as a) I am now married to the most amazing women in the universe and b) the first time round was bad enough!

Who need places like face book...
I keep on bumping in to people I either knew or worked with when I lived in at home.
I have moved to several places around the UK and when I moved to Reading, I bump in to an old work friend in a local pub, two years after that, I meet a friend I hadn't seen in 8 years. Went on holiday to Spain... met an old girlfriend.
TBH I can not go anywhere without bumping in to someone I know.
As for people in this thread talking about other contacting you on places like facebook, this is just as said a popularity contest as well as that they are also measuring their success against yours.
I generally use one of these ploys...

I give them a mental picture that I have not been successful and had many stints at her majesty's pleasure, been dependent on drugs for several years and currently they are interrupting you from nicking the PC your on at the local library.

I am too busy to reply to minions these days, I have 4 major factories in developing country's that I exploit the native work force and earn a few million a year at it and I am now packing a travel bag as I have to go off to some province in a backwater town in China to buy a factory...

Who are you? Why are you bothering me? I don't remember anyone from school, thats how dull people were.
Or I may use a mix n mash up of all of them. This is great because people will often not bother contacting you again. :)
