Can we start a new post where we tell/show your favourite piece of music.
It can be of all time of current favourite or even one you have just found/discovered.
If you can post it played so much the better! Put it on and then open a new tab to look at other posts whilst listening.
Comments about individual's tastes are welcome so long as they aren't insulting.
I'll start, if I may.

This is one of my favourite songs ever and this version with the classical guitar solo at the end gives me goose bumps all over. So beautiful.
-
I love Pink Floyd Paulham, especially Division Bell, Dark Side of the Moon and the whole of The Wall album.
My musical tastes are so diverse I would find it impossible to pick just one piece and say it's my favourite. Therefore, I've chosen a favourite modern blues record by Tom Waits. You have to spend a bit of time getting used to the voice, but give it a try, It's a beautiful but deeply sad track.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZmqbcBsTAw
-
Wow! That is certainly some voice.
-
Yep. He was quite young when he recorded this. He composed the lyrics and music but it has been covered by others - including Rod Stewart. However, for me this is the most beautiful rendition.
-
Ok. So this post is a slow burner.
Another one I really love is his:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2XFis40qhIE&feature=related
Steven Wilson is the artist.
-
You lot are no help on this posting!
I'll carry on oblivious. (No, Lou, it isn't their new film)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=C_JdKJQPS9I
Ah, sublime.
-
how about Variations by Andrew Lloyd Webber
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMCb90JpvxY
-
Julian is playing however...

I thought you had posted that Israeli "bird" for a moment!
Nicesh!
-
This is another of my favourite songs - very relevant just now with an election coming up in the USA

Heck yeh!
Well here's a favourite of mine for what it's worth:

-
Ok, must be my turn again:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EzC0gPMum9Q
-
You have good musical taste Paulham.
-
Here is a beautiful song that has more and more significance for me as the days roll by:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rJknm_MQ2s0
-
Good pick Oldspice.
A poignant song.
-
I adore that song. Apparently it made Carole King (who wrote it) cry when she first heard Dusty sing it.
I'd have loved to have seen Dusty Springfield live - it was so sad she died so young.
-
It makes me cry. Especially as I have reached a stage in life when friends and family are passing on. Not only that, but I find I am far less tolerant than I used to be. Things such as bad manners, ignorant behaviour and fecklessness send me into a rage.
However, let's snap out of it and have something jolly. When i roll behind the curtains, I'm going to surprise everyone by selecting this song to see me into the next world:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kxz_JBuyF4I
-
Oh that's way too uplifting for me.
I would go out to this:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdXfkkyI1nQ&feature=related
-
I like both those choices - obviously it's time I gave this matter a little thought!
-
I'll just go sit in a corner now and contemplate.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AratTMGrHaQ
or if you prefer
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mmbQEQltOwM&feature=related
-
I prefer Jeff Buckley or Leonard Cohen.
-
I am afraid although he wrote it, I cannot take to lenny's version.
-
He's a brilliant singer and songwriter though. Have you ever heard Suzanne? It's wonderful!
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Swl2bETKqWg
-
I like his music.
-
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7EhpyRjNNqs
Another classic song.
-
This is a superb cover of the Nina Simone track Wild is the Wind by David Bowie. I just love it.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=90u1IV4dw8o
-
And here is another great favourite:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7PENBU3lrpE&feature=related
-
And yet another great favourite. Jim Croce, a beautiful singer and songwriter who sadly died in a plane crash back in the 70s aged just 27. He is more famous for the lovely Time in a Bottle
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vSozWUvlqhs&feature=related
-
Nice one Paulham. I'm not a huge Eagles fan, but that one just has to be heard a few times a year.
-
Mmmmm, Free Bird.
-
27! He looks about 47 there!
-
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=j1cJFIGHkJA
I love this one because it bears no resemblance to anything they did later on.
-
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=i9ksV1-weTM&feature=related
Simple but brilliant.
-
Nope, definitely not a Quo fan. What about some Moody Blues?
-
Yes, like that. Love Waterloo Sunset. One of the great pop songs.
Saw Dionne Warwick live last night. She was FANTASTIC. Quite an achievement to get a big star like her in Peterborough.
-
I'm glad you didn't just walk on by. ;)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N-h8e15Z7PY
Another from my favourite band.
Mellow.
-

I can't get this one out of my head!
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rmj5GpZ5oXQ
-
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=s5Z2gR-lOXY
I think this is one of Abba's best.
Mind you I have my own lyrics!
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/606/2/refresh/images/smileys/f_musicalnote.gif) The winner takes it all, the loser gets f*** all....(http://www.bbc.co.uk/606/2/refresh/images/smileys/f_musicalnote.gif)
-
Another ABBA song, but not performed by them:

Not all modern stuff is pap! ;)
Mind you, some would say this isn't exactly new.
-
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph-NOQCn_Xw&feature=related
Anyone else?

I would post but for some reason that I can not fathom, all the video I try on YT and the embedded stuff here in this thread has no audio at my end!
So instead here are links to some.

Boards of Canada: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQEmaj9C6ko (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQEmaj9C6ko)

Kruder & Dorfmeister: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAZPPY6Rp0M (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAZPPY6Rp0M)
Examples of what I used to listen to in a former life...

Metallica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRYDetbwegs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRYDetbwegs)
And when I were a wee lad / teenager I used to listen to allot of radio like 'the John Peel' show and also the JP Sessions he did and also late night with Annie Nightingale when she played some real good indie stuff.
-
Nice ambient stuff above netbuddy.
-
I also listen to Psychedelic Trance which is not to be confused with that cr*p that is shoveled by the likes of Ministry of Sound or the Ibiza scene, they are just using the name Trance to their advantage.
If you ever watch the film "The Beach" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0163978/ it contains some good examples of just what REAL trance is. Problem is the word has become associated with hand bag, hard house which used to be referred to as Uplifting House.
Believe it or not, Trance has been around for a very very very very long time, whilst studying sound engineering, my assignment was on the history of synthesizers and I was gob smacked to find out that the synthesizer was not invented by Elisha Gray as it is billed in most American web sites but it actually goes to Jean-Baptiste de Laborde a French man in between 1759 & 1761! People always think that Elisha Gray was the first or Bob Moog.
It sort of puts ambient and trance in to the category some of the oldest genres next to classical music.
-
I do like Tangerine Dream.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eq_d0DKqyos
-
Some more ambient stuff.

-
I love Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'
-
Lorri, Logger and Strolling Minstrel all back in one day! It's like a reunion do (without thinking how fat the people we hate have got and laughing...)
-
It's lovely to see old names reappear. Here's a silly old song to say how pleased I am. It's one of those embarrassing naff old songs ya nan used to like:

I think this has stood the test of time very well.
-
Very nice Paulham. Not as good as Dark Side of the Moon though.
Doesn't anyone else like music??
-
This is a most beautiful but sad love song. It was written by a woman - the wonderful Buffy St Marie (who wrote and recorded the magnificent Soldier Blue. Many people have recorded it but this is by far the best version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5PJDnaNjCQ# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5PJDnaNjCQ#)
-
Ground breaking!
Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqyc37aOqT0#hq)
-
My husband is a great Peter Gabriel fan. I am not so fond but i can see the attraction.
Here's one for you Paulham. I love this pair!
The Proclaimers - Letter from America (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UPJ-euBzSM&feature=related#lq2-hq)
-
Well........here's one for you Oldspice.
Indian Thriller (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbvP7dT3Dx0#lq2-hq)
Laugh? I nearly did!
What a Ravi Shankar
-
But I REALLY DO love The Proclaimers!
Agree with you about our friend above. I still think he's better than MJ though. I must be the only person on earth who absolutely HATED the Thriller album. I much preferred his Motown days.
-
Well that isn't the Proclaimers! It is Muppets.
-
The Muppets Show - Mahna Mahna (manamana, Mah-Na Mah-Na) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTXyXuqfBLA#lq2-hq)

-
LOU CHRISTIE - I'm Gonna Make You Mine (1969) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLemdORSx_E#lq2-hq)
another fave of mine. this should have won some sort of 'worlds most innappropriate video' award, though.
-
New music!
Come on everyone, let's here your favourites.
You reminded me of another Christie...
Tony Christie - Avenues and Alleyways 1973 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj4UFqKG5YI&feature=related#lq-lq2-hq)
-
edison lighthouse - Love grows where my rosemary goes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr6H1a7YUac#hq)
lets stick with that era.
-
Rosemary is my mams middle name.Just thought i would throw that in.
-
ah, but does love grow where you go?
-
of course
-
indeed. how silly of me to ask.
-
Rosemary is a beautiful name.
-
Beach Boys - Lady Linda (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pzd4D9ndtok#lq-lq2-hq)
Ken Bruce played this today. I had forgotten it. From my youth and turth be told I didn't know it was the Beach Boys.
I love the mix with the classical piece.
-
godDAMN i love the beach boys. they are my all time fave group EVER!
i never thought this song really had THE distinctive beach boys sound - but it really works on its own merit. great song.
-
The classical bit is Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring. (Bach) We had it at our wedding.
This version is quite sweet. I'd forgotten all about it. Some Beach Boy tracks are truly great - I especially like God Only Knows.
If you like men in blouses, cop this clip. It's one of many Brotherhood of Man line-ups. I think this is actually the first line up and quite a few more followed. It's a great song - but visually, they are not the most attractive of groups.
BROTHERHOOD OF MAN - United We Stand (1970) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB3RBxnn98g#lq-lq2-hq)
-
The Big Lebowski - Gutterballs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz2ET5K6zY0#lq-lq2-hq)

-
Gazpacho - Tick Tock Winter is Never (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18IrlcW5M4k&feature=related#lq-lq2-hq)
This week, I has been loving this song.

-
Son, if you think "great minds" like Star Trekkin, then you're a bigger dope than i had you reckoned on. ;)
-
there's nothing wrong with Star Trekkin', i'll have you know! (SOMEBODY put it at number one.)
-
Barry McGuire: Eve of Destruction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8SfiCnwF28#lq-lq2-hq)

-
Talk Talk - Its My Life (second video) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9_1rqkrgok#lq-lq2-hq)
Better than Gwen any day.
