Gary glitter is demanding round the clock police protection as he fears for his safety.
It could cost taxpayers £50,000 a year to protect him if police decide there are credible threats against his life.
Over the next few days, Scotland Yard will carry out a risk assessment.

I fail to see why we couldn't have joined the list of countries which deny entry to this odious former bankrupt. If his actions were offensive to those nations, they're offensive to us too.
Britain may have been his homeland at one point but that was only a convenience to allow him to travel to Cuba, Cambodia, Vietnam, etc. His repellent habits surely mean we can wait till he settles somewhere as far away from humanity as possible, then cancel his passport?
-
Well, he was born and raised in this country and as far as I know so were all of his close relatives so I don't think that Britain was a homeland of convenience.
His crimes are odious but he will not stop offending if he is hounded from pillar to post. He needs an out-of-the-way place to live, away from temptation. He should not receive round-the-clock police protection. It would not be difficult for him to change his appearance so that he is not recognised. He should be treated like any other child sex offender. He should be required to sign in at a police station weekly and agree to have treatment for his offending behaviour (cognitive conditioning).
I am not excusing his behaviour at all, but, it is important to remember that the majority of child sex offenders have been abused themselves and are conditioned from a very young age to gain sexual pleasure from a union between child and adult. This behaviour must be addressed and treated.

Well said. I believe the urge to abuse children sexually is a medical condition, which should be treated as such.

Castration comes to mind.

Isn't that what the cat gets?

I think it can apply to any genitialia.

Is that a flower?

Erm...

D'you wanna be in his gang?
-
you don't know how much i've resisted the temptation to say that.

#He's the paedo, the paedo, the paedo of the gang he is.#

As a child I love Gary Glitter and Alvin Stardust.

As a young teen I was more into David Bowie. I still am.

My older brother has a David Bowie tattoo.

The problem with saying we don't want him in Britain is that he has to live somewhere. While I can't say I like the thought of a man like this being readmitted, it is preferable to trying to dump him on some other country - imagine the outcry if we let foreign convicted paedophiles into Britain! It works both ways.
I agree he doesn't deserve round the clock police protection. He should be monitored to ensure he is not allowed to move into a high risk area (e.g. near schools), but to be blunt if someone should find out where he is and attacks him for his behaviour, he has no one to blame but himself - he could have protected himself by not abusing innocent minors in the first place.
