Title: Emmerdale

I know it's only a drama, but does anyone else think it was a bizarrely perverse ruling by the judge on parental custody of the baby?

It was an incredibly difficult ruling, but I think it was the right one. It was a terrible mix-up and would be beyond horrendous for anyone involved, but it was still early enough to put it right. It's not the same as taking a five or ten year-old child away from the only parents it has ever known; a child of that age won't remember.

Like Bounty said, it's only a drama, but I do think it's been brilliantly acted. I felt terribly sorry for the couple who thought they were the parents, even though I'm not keen on the characters per se.

One of the mothers has now lost two children.  I think it was a terrible decision.

Would you be saying that if you were the parent being told 'sorry, I know that's your child and everything and he was taken from you through no fault of your own, but he's been with another family for nine months now so you can't have him back'?

I don't think soaps should have these upsetting storylines.  I want to relax and enjoy a programme without having to reach for the tissues.

I think the corrie story with the young kids trying to rob Roy then Jerry chasing them and ending up with a heart attack will be scarey to old folk.

I know what you mean, but sometimes the most difficult to watch storylines can be the most moving. I find it more annoying when soaps deliberately set out to shock with a controversial subject and don't even try to treat it sensitively (the infamous incest plot in Brookside springs to mind).

If you want saccharine escapism, I'd recommend the Disney collection.

Or Neighbours.
