A gay Iranian teenager who feared he could be executed if he was returned home has been given asylum in Britain.
Mehdi Kazemi, 19, came to London to study English in 2005, but later discovered that his boyfriend had been charged with sodomy in Iran and hanged.
The home secretary agreed to reconsider Mr Kazemi's case in March, after his first asylum bid failed.
The UK Border Agency now says it will allow him asylum after reviewing his case.
There's too many asylum seekers using this line. There's one in the north east claims she and her 3 kids cannot go back home as she will be imprisoned for being a lesbian.

So you would be happy for someone to be murdered purely on the basis of what they do in bed?
This is great news. I have been involved in the campaign to get Mehdi Kazemi's case reviewed and am delighted good sense - and plain humanity - have prevailed.

Do you think we should let persecuted people in to the country because they are gay? Or, should we put pressure on other governments to observe human rights, howsoever that might be interpreted?
-
Both.

Man! I'm not going near this one with 10 foot pole. (No his name isn't Tomasz, eitther)

I think that anyone in danger of their lives due to the intolerance of their native country should be given asylum. This might be due to religious belief, sexuality, political beliefs of anything similar - within reason. The Nazis used to execute homosexuals - surely we are better than that?

I think my post may have been misunderstood. I agree that anyone in danger should be given asylum but I think there's many who exaggerate their situation. I don't like to think some are saying they are gay if they are not just to gain asylum.

Well, the obviousy solution would be to ask them to prove it!
-
LOL, how do you do that?
-
'Suck this and smile while you're doing it'?

They would be "good with colours"?

And making quiche.
