Title: FORUM UPGRADE IN PROGRESS

Hi folks,
Yes, we're (finally) upgrading the forum system. After a few successful tests over the last two weeks the forum is now being migrated to a new (faster) system.
This will also give a new login system and registration system and also lead to upgrading the performance of the rest of the web site.

Any forum postings or changes you make today will be lost in the migration (you can of course re-write it once the new forum is live).

Most of the upgrade should be finished before 9pm.

I'll post again with updates about progress (a choc news e-mail will go out tomorrow assuming all goes well).

Progress so far....
All users migrated, registration process updated, all forum topics and replies copied across.

Still to look at: avatar migration (if possible), new login page (so you don't have to go to the forum to login).

Let me know by PM when you spot things that aren't quite right or things you'd like me to investigate fixing.

Seems to be loading the pages very slowly at the moment. Hope this changes!

I think it's just the server sorting itself out. There is an optimisation function I can run, but don't want to do this until I'm happy the bulk of the migratable data has been moved :-)

Yeah, it's a bit up and down speed wise - but it doesn't timeout like the old one (or at least I've not had that yet). As I tweak the code for the bars and votes the whole site should speed up a little.

Seems there's an intermittent issue on the arcade at present. I've reported it to my hosting peeps as it's not a problem I have control over.
I'm also going to do a 'fix' and 'optimize' in the forum system - so that could do anything ;)

Bug with arcade fixed (apparently was a problem with the database server at the hosting end).
Let me know if you spot anything else that's not quite right. ta
