i know this thread probably belongs on a writing forum or something, but hey - i like you guys... can anyone help???
im a writer by trade (ish). ive just written a book. its the first one ive ever finished. and i need to get it copywritten. ive been told to print off a copy and send it registered post to myself, and keep it sealed... thus the post-stamp will act as proof of date etc. however, im not convinced this is fool-proof.
has anyone here ever had to copyright anything? if so, whats the best (and cheapest) way to go about it. i ask only because i know some of your jobs etc. might have crossed into this territory before.
many thanks.

Well done for finishing your book wip666. That's a magnificent achievement. I don't think it's too difficult to get something made copywrite. There's an organisation that deals with it. You could probably find it on the net. What you really need is an agent. They help you sort that kind of thing out. I have friends and colleagues who are writers and they all say yopu really need an agent.

cheers - i shall be looking into it very soon.

What is your book about wjp?
-
well, i started writing 2 at the same time. one of them was a psycho-thriller-horror type affair... and my side project (just for fun) was a kind of adventure book aimed at a younger audience. oddly enough i completed the kids book first, and left the other one for dust (temporarily.) so it's the 'younger readers' one i'm looking to copyright at the moment. the other one shouldn't be too far behind. it's hard to say what it's about without going into detail... hence why i need the copyright!
it's a paranormal action/adventure book, written specifically for younger people who don't usually read much... and it would sit nicely on the shelf next to Harry Potter!wjp6662008-03-17 23:15:37

I saw an episode of Columbo (or it might have been Monk) where a songwriter did this with his lyrics and someone still killed him and nicked his song!
-
That's not a cheery thought is it.
-
erk! give me something to worry about!

That is a bit of a confession!
-
Oh I love Columbo. He's marvellous.
Monk just gets on my nerves.
Well done for finishing your book WJP, and good luck with the next one.
Hope they're both a smash.

I'll look for your name next to JK Rowling next time they publish the richest in UK list.
-
hehe - thanks! i don't care if i sell any, it'd just be nice to be in print!
and as for Columbo - that was one hellava great show. never quite understood why though... i mean you ALWAYS got to see who the murderer was in the first 10 minutes, so it lost all the intensity of a traditional whodunnit. and it was quirky, unlike all the dross pon these days.

I am looking forward to reading your book wjp.
-
i'll let you know what happens when i start sending copies out to agents/publishers in a couple of weeks. fingers crossed for me!
-
fingers crossed for me!
Definitely.

-
much appreciated!
-
wjp I hope you make lots of money from your book .
-
Yes. Remember us when you are famous.
I have always had a strange feeling that JK Rowling didn't actually think up HP herself.
I cannot prove it, obviously but there is something in her demeanour that makes me highly suspicious of her.
-
I've just finished a book too: "Postman Pete And His Black And White Dog" and I'm using this message to assert my authorship rights. You're all witnesses: hope that's okay?
-
Are you also the author of Niddy and Bog Ears?
-
I can't wait to show you the new cartoon characters I've created, The Snoofs - small purple people who run about in green hats.
-
Congrats on you new book can we have a comp to win one!
