A schoolgirl suspended from class for wearing religious images on her lapel will continue to keep them on her blazer, her mother has said.

Catrina McDermott has been threatened with expulsion for wearing emblems of St Patrick and the guardian angel.


I cannot see what she has done anything wrong.

It's not religious discrimination at all. If the girl had gone to school with skull and crossbone pins or band badges on her school blazer and was protesting about a suspension, you'd be saying she should grow up and wear her proper school uniform. This is no different.

If a school has  a rule about keeping the school blazer free from any sort of badge she should be prepared to accept and keep that rule if she wants a place at the school.

This seems to me to be a case of someone trying to get away with reverse discrimination.
Her mother seems to think that because they are religious images they should be allowed to remain even though they are not part of the uniform.

She should have been suspended and she should be kept out of school until she conforms or they change the school rules and allow not only her religious icons but also the skull and crossbones and band badges.

The problem then of course is how much of her education she is missing. But if it doesn't concern her mum too much I'm happy to let that be her decision.

I didn't read the bit about no badges at all being allowed on her blazer. That's a different matter and I've changed my mind about it all now.  suspend the troublesome little bitch.

Everyone is trying to jump on the religious band-wagon so that they can jump up and down claiming religious persecution.  There are a lot of people out there just begging to be victims.

If you had a job where you had to wear a uniform, and a condition of that was no jewellery, you'd have to stop displaying it.

That's very different to taking the job but then kicking up a fuss because you're not allowed to ignore the rules - which is effectively what this girl is doing.
