Title: Lotus Caramelised Biscuits
Post by: on January 30, 2008, 07:02:57 pm

I bought these the other day in Tesco and I have instantly fell in lust with them.

They are like ginger snaps in texture and crunch but have a subtle cinnamon flavour instead of the ginger.

Very moreish and I guess I was amazed how easy it is to over look what on the face of it appears a very ordinary biscuit. 59p a pack too.

Anyone else like them?

I think Aldi do something similar at Christmas time and they are fantastic.

You get these in Travel Inns now instead of proper biscuits.

AAARGH!!!!

I'm totally addicted to these!  Have been for years.

Just reading the thread title makes me want to lock myself alone in the house with 150 packets of the offending biscuits.  Seriously, I can't even look at them in the supermarket.

When I was in Prague, I bought a chocolate covered version.

If you don't think they are great when you get them, you can always put them to good use:

Don't hold your breath. Sainsburys doesn't seem to have a great product range to me.

Sainsbury's push their own brand ranges too heavily. If you want a good selection of named brands, go to Tesco.

I like Sainsburys but am always disappointed at the dessert range at my local store.  All they ever have is Aunt Bessies spotted dick.Cry

I live a few miles from the biggest Tesco in the country but they don't bloody stock these! That's just 'cos I live in a boring, same-old town where stock lists are aimed at the C/D population. Bloody peasants!

Oh! Hot dog!!!!!!!!
[Belgian biscuit baker Lotus well known for their Caramalised Biscuits and Speculoos has found a way turning biscuits into a spread. This seems to be grinding them up with some vegetable oil, sugar and emulsifier much in the way peanuts might find themselves ending up in peanut butter. The upshot of this is that it tastes almost exactly like Speculoos, just is peanut butter tastes just like peanuts.

Beyond breakfast I can see this new technology being put use in two important areas. The first as new form of biscuit adhesive for making advanced types of birthday cakes. In fact I reckon you could pull off a half decent Jabba the Hut's sail barge sticking on the window shutters with a jar of this stuff. The second and perhaps more obvious use is in the manned exploration of Mars. Biscuit crumbs in zero G during the 3 year round trip could prove quite a problem scuppering the no doubt endless opportunities for a nice float around and a cup of tea presented by 18 months in space. Lumps of this should be much better behaved in space. Demand in Belgium for the product has been overwhelming, and if there is any of it spare Lotus UK will try and bring it to our supermarkets. ]
