Title: Beetlejuice
Post by: roxy on February 17, 2005, 05:53:30 pm

God I feel cheap! (Scary how little there's left on the mileage by now...)

Is it true they use pulverized insects on the red Smartie colouring agent, or am I simply being duped here?

(Too bad there is no right or wrong answer to that question...)

A lot of companies use cochineal substitute now, but apparently it's the real thing in Smarties  And I know McDonalds used to use it in their strawberry milkshakes - not sure if they still do.

I bought a McFlurry once and asked first of all if it was vegetarian. The supervisor went away to check the folder with the ingredients and said it was, so I bought it. Within half an hour I came out in a rash - turned out there was cochineal in it, which I am sensitive to.

I wrote and complained and they sent me vouchers for McDonald's food. But I doubt they'll remove cochineal from the recipe.

I dont worry so much about this. Thing is imagine all the crap in sausages and burgers, its all lips, eyebrows and arseholes, so who cares?

If it tastes nice, eat it, if it doesn't, dont.

Smarties mcFlurry is one of only two things that I'll consume from SchmcDonalds.  Choc Chick, it's soft ice cream with crushed Smarties sprinkled on top.

Preparation H cream used to have shark's fin in it. Can you imagine the first person with piles thinking " If I could just find me a shark's fin I could try rubbing it on my crack to see if it reduces the swelling."

What food is hygenic though?

If you think about it seriously most pre packaged food is unhealthy, but so are things which are prepared iin your own house.
