The town of Whitehaven in Cumbria has become the first place in the UK to undergo the official switchover from analogue to digital TV.

BBC Two was the first to go digital at 0200 BST on Wednesday, with the remaining analogue channels to be switched off on 14 November.

Around 25,000 households will need Freeview, satellite, cable or broadband in order to watch television.

I wonder how many people are without tv.

It's worth it in the end. I'm all for bringing the switchover sooner - then they can up the transmission power of the digital signal and more people can get a decent freeview service. Plus there'll be loads of frequencies available for other services (with presumably all the money from selling it going into the government coffers ).

There's a lot more to the switchover than meets the eye.  What's happening to the old analogue wavelengths?   What indeed.  Enough said.
