Title: Always complain
Post by: smurfboy on October 06, 2007, 02:02:31 pm

Last night in M and S Simply Food the assistant:

a) Didn't know how to take a storecard payment;

b) Couldn't get the security tag off a bottle of wine - neither could two more of his colleagues;

c) Charged me twice for the same item.

I was going to leave it, until this morning when I went to put the wine in the fridge and realised they'd replaced the security tagged one with the wrong bottle Angry Anyway, long story short, I put my best moany voice on and am going in later to collect my free 'goodwill gift'! Who says complaining gets you nowhere?

This morning I bought a purse from House of Fraser. The assistant was too busy gassing on the phone that she forgot to take the security tag off. As I left the shop the alarm went off and 2 security guards escorted me back into the shop. After showing them the receipt they had the security tag removed and apologised to me.
Now obviously I'm thinking I should turn on the tears but I am just about to start my really upset routine when the manager of the department comes along and gives me a 10 voucher as an apology.

That must have been a distressing experience though Lou. It happened to my son when he was about 11. he paid for a computer game in Our Price (I think) and the assistant did not remove the tag so he was jumped on outside the store and was terribly upset.

I was very mad with them and told them they had no right to jump on him unless they had reasonable grounds to suspect he had stolen something (ie they had witnessed him attempting to steal).  otherwise, their approach should have been low-key.

I hope your 'goodwill' gift is worthwhile Smurfy. If you're lucky, it will be a nice hamper with wine, chocolates and a nice oven-ready meal.

I was buying something in Sainsbury's yesterday and asked for cashback.  The assistant 'requested' (actually ordered) me to put in my PIN before the instruction had even appeared on the screen that I was looking at.  I waited for a second to check the amount during which she barked 'Put in your PIN' again at me, and I then noticed that the cashback amount wasn't there.  I pointed this out to her and her attitude changed completely - all smiles and apologies.
I'm now wondering if I hadn't pointed it out to her - would I have got the cashback anyway and she would have got in trouble later?

Well done Smurfy for complaining and I also hope your gift is something worth having and not too calorific!

Only an extra bottle of wine - but it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointy courgette.

Indeed!
Be sure to cut your mouth on some 'glass' in the wine as you drink it. This could be a fruitful series of complaints.

Maybe he fancies you, Lou and cannot pluck up the courage to ask you out on a date.
That, or you look like a filfee tea-leaf!

I once got followed in M&S by a security guard, and i actually heard the sales assistant tell him to watch me! I was really reall upset - i don't think i appear to be a thief! I wrote and got a 5 - that's pretty rubbish when i think about it.
