A L'Oreal commercial featuring Penelope Cruz broke industry rules because the actress was wearing false eyelashes, the advertising watchdog has decreed.

The advert for the firm's 'Telescopic' mascara claimed the product could make eyelashes "up to 60 per cent longer".

I bought it and was very unimpressed when it made my eyes quite itchy and watery.

Lou, thanks for this helpful tip. Buying mascara can be a real pain. The range in price is incredible and I have found that even expensive stuff makes my eyes smart, water and itch. However, because I have quite small, deep set eyes I need a bit of masci to bring them out and show of the deep blue/grey of my eyes.

I usually have my eyelashes dyed but am a fan of No. 7 Full Impact mascara.  Avon mascara is rubbish - it dries out really quickly.

Ding dong Avon calling. GC have you seen that Avon mascara advertised on tv with the dodgy looking bent brush?

If you look at the adverts above the posts, there one for L'Oreal!
