Lewis Beer, 21, of Cheltenham, told the judge at Gloucester Crown Court he would be refused work as the tag was visible when he wore his gym kit.
He was fired by Cheltenham Borough Council after being convicted of an assault at Moda nightclub in April.
Judge Timothy Mousley QC ordered him to do 30 hours of unpaid work instead.
In April, Beer pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.
He was sentenced to a 12-month community order, 150 hours' unpaid work and a curfew with tagging.
