Title: Bruce to host Antiques Roadshow
Post by: loulou on June 23, 2007, 01:11:01 am
UnhappyDid the title catch you out like it did me when i spotted this in the newspaper and thought how nice for Bruce Forsyth to present Antiques Roadshow to then read on and find it is not Brucie but Fiona Bruce.

I did immediately think of Bruce Forsyth but confess that my reaction was not "how nice" - I would be horrified to see him present the Roadshow!

If it had been Bruce Forsyth I would be expecting one of the experts to try and give him a valuation for sale at auction, being such an old antique himself!

I thought of Bruce Fogle!

I love old Brucie Forsyth. He's got a real down-to-earth decency about him that appeals to me.

No, I think it's his father. He's a vet. Did you know his mother is a famous but faded actress?  Can't remember her name. She was well known in the 60s.

Sorry, that was me assuming you'd mixed your names up Embarrassed

His mother is the woman who says 'hello mum' on the ESure ad with Michael Winner.

His mother is Julia Foster.

She was in the original 'Alfie' with Michael Caine, and 'Half a Sixpence' with Tommy Steele.

That's her! I thought Alfie was such a thought-provoking film. I particularly loved the theme song and the line 'are we supposed to take more than we give?'. Very moving.

I think Bruce Forsyth would be good hosting Antiques Roadshow.  Look what a good job Des O'Connor is doing on Countdown - aren't they about the same age?  What does it matter how old you are - BF will never retire.

I like Brucie but I agree with GC - he'd make a terrible Antiques Roadshow host.

Apparently he's actually that colour and not from a sunbed.
I agree he looks like he's eaten too many carrots.

It's not Bruce's age that's a problem for the Roadshow - I just don't think he has the knowledge for it.

He's very good when it comes to variety, but you need someone more serious for something like the Antiques Roadshow. I don't think it can be compared to David Dickinson on Bargain Hunt, as that is essentially a gameshow.

I always listen for the location and then fast-forward the bit with the host as I'm interested in the items and the appraisors not so much in the host. The experts could probably carry the show themselves, maybe they don't need a host.

What was that orange juice stuff that they said a few years ago turned you a yellowy/orange if you drank too much of it?
Maybe he' been drinking more of that than he should!
