Sunderland to host 2008 World Marbles and tiddlywinks championships.
Locals in the north east city are bracing themselves for the arrival of marbles and tiddlywinks players from around the world next June. The events have apparently been combined since 2001 when the WMF and the ITWC combined forces after funding problems. Ben Thurlow of the World Marbles Federation said, 'We'll look forward to playing in Sunderland as I've heard it's a nice city and the humidity will suit the game'. No one from the International Tiddly Wink Council was available for comment.

It's been a while since I played either tiddlywinks or marbles, but I used to be pretty good at marbles, though never more than average at tiddlywinks. Certainly would never have made a champion.
I wonder if they'll televise it?

Only Sunderland would hold these championships. They will do anything to get tourists.
