Title: Mars do U-turn on animal ingredients
Post by: on May 20, 2007, 11:30:28 am
After a huge protest by the veggi lobby Mars UK have backed down on their plans to include animal renate from lamb's liver in their main brands.  'Favourites' such as Mars, Snickers, Bounty and Maltesers would all have been affected.  A spokesman for the Vegetarian Alliance said, 'this is a victory for common sense, we aplaud Mars for their integrity', or something.

It makes you wonder what kind of morons Masterfoods have in their PR department. Blind Freddie could have seen this had disaster written all over it.

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this was a massive PR stunt?

Now veggies can go into a shop and think "oooh Mars - I know they're definitely veggie after all that press when they nearly went non-veggie, I know I'll get them".  (OK so not all veggies, but you know what I mean)

Also, they now have an excuse to say, put the price up by a couple of pence, because they're using veggie ingredients, over what they may claim to be cheaper alternatives....

...call me a cynic but......

It's certainly not impossible. But my gut feeling was that they simply thought 'no one cares what a few lentil lovers think' - and got it massively wrong.

A victory, what a lovely change. Big%20smile

Did you get a reply to your e-mail yet? I haven't heard a thing. Unhappy

Still things got done, and I suppose if they're replying to everyone who complained it might take a while. LOL
