Title: The Waltons
Post by: oldspice on February 24, 2007, 02:02:21 pm

Somebody on the radio today mentioned this TV programme. Did anyone watch it? i remember sitting down with an aunt and really enjoying it!

It was a family living in Virginia. Dad was a wood cutter. They were a Christian family and there were loads of kids with double-barrelled names like Jim-Bob, John-Boy and Mary-Jo.

I used to love The Waltons. It was always on Sunday mornings on Channel 4 when I was growing up.

Remember when John-Boy came home with a different face? It just wasn't as good after that.

I used to love the Waltons. Watched it every weekend.

I would have loved growing up in a family like that, and how I have always longed to own a mountain!

I loved all those family meals around the big table in The Waltons and the way 'gramaa' and 'grapaa' were  always so naughty!

Will Geer, who played Grandpa, was a very controversial figure in real life. He was openly bisexual and was blacklisted as a communist for years after the McCarthy witch-hunts.

I don't get how a man can be bisexual.  He was gay but pretended to like women.

But I suppose you have no problem with a woman being bisexual.

That's right, but it is genuinely different.  The reason being that the sex between two women is much more similar to  sex between a man and a woman than between two men.

I'll never be coninced of male bisexuality if you write a thesis on it.  It's a myth.  Several gay men have relationships with women but they're still gay.  There's a lot more to sexuality than just sex.

How on earth do you know what happens when two women or two men have sex? Surely it varies from couple to couple? I know you might not believe this but many couples, including and perhaps especially gay couples, do not have penitrative sex.

I do believe that.  However, the fact remains that the sexual interactions between two women is more akin to heterosexuality.  So what exactly is male bisexuality?  It is a cop out for men who cannot decide wheich camp they're in.  Pun intended.

How? Sex between two women is completely different to sex between a man and a woman. Your so called 'facts' are screwed up to suit your own beliefs.

May I remind you that men can have sex with women in the same way that men can have sex with other men.

I'm afraid I'll upset too many people if I reply to that.  I'm trying to stay friendly.

How is that possibly a fact? If anything, homosexual sex between men is more similar to heterosexuality (although the whole assertion is ridiculous). How can I put this - with two women you have two sockets, but no plugs!

Well I think that's the rudest thing I have ever read!

Personally I think that a person's sexual orientation is a private matter and whilst it doesn't concern I am happy not to know about it.

I loved those two old rogues who made the whisky! What did they call it? Was it Father's recipe?

Yes, 'the recipe' - the poor old dears had no idea what they were making!
