Title: Train crash in Cumbria

Sounds like a miracle not more were killed. Not saying it's a factor here but first thing I would do if I became PM would be to renationalise the railways.

Me too. Privatisation was a ridiculous idea.

Though that seems to be almost unheard of they have picked a good thing to be in agreement about..

It is a shame that the country probably could not affford to buy back everything that was sold off and be in control again isn't it?

It's also a shame that all those people who complained about how bad things ran before could not have seen what was to become of it all, perhaps they would have stilled their mushes?

I doubt it - the railways certainly weren't perfect pre-privatisation! I don't think because something has got worse we should start looking at a time when things were still pretty shabby as 'the good old days'.

It's not all bad now, many of the Virgin trains and services are excellent.  But travelling around the East midlands is a shambles.  No, it wasn't perfect in the BR days, but it wasn't as bad as it is now.  The customer services were better then and you knew who you were buying your ticket from.  we have been lumbered with private rail system because the government, this one and the last gives train travel a low priority.
