When did people start to say yay! instead of yes!? I first heard it on 'Smells like teen spirit' by Nirvana, which is early 90's.
-
My sister says 'yay' a lot, I think she picked it up from watching Friends.
-
Yay doesn't just mean yes, it's more like hurray.
-
I meant yes as in YES!!! That is hooray isn't it?
-
Yay!!!
-
And when did Hi become Hey?
-
Hey is American (but then again so is hi I suppose...) I never say it; it sounds rude to me.
-
The scandinavians say Hey hey as a greeting, particularly the Finns and Swedes!
-
I find myself saying ya a lot.
-
-

A lot of people say 'aye'.
Here we get 'aye up!'.

Here we get 'aye up!'.
Please tell me people don't really say that?
-
It's very common both in the North and the East Midlands.
-
when did 'goodbye' become 'later'? i tell ya - the bloody 90's are to blame for all of this!
-
Ooh arrrrrrr!
-
The most annoying Americanism ever has to be 'my bad'. For those of you who have been lucky enough not to hear it before, it means 'my mistake' - because apparently the two whole syllables in mistake are too much to handle.
-
youre right - 'my bad' wins hands down. f**king yanks!

Yes, but the aye is pronounced like the ay in hay

I have heard that one a lot recently, in fact I even read it somewhere on this forum. Glad it's not just me who finds it annoying.

I blame Friends for that one too!
-

i think if someone said 'my bad' to me in a sentence..i'd have to ask..
"your bad what?"

I have to admit that's what I thought the first time I saw it.
