i've been annoying nestle for some time now about re-launching the Cabana bar. finally, they decide to write back to me... here's the reply:
Thank you for your recent enquiry via email concerning the Cabana bar.
We are sorry to inform you that the Cabana bar was withdrawn from our range due to the high cost of production and the relatively low level of sales. We can assure you that the decision to withdraw any product is only taken with great reluctance as we realise that some consumers will be disappointed.
I am sorry to say that we do not hold information on the product due to it's withdrawl many years ago in a time before the merge with Rowntrees neither can i find any indication that a re-release is planned in the forseeable future. Your comments have been logged and your enquiry into this product will be added to our statistical records which contribute to future marketing decisions.
We hope that this is not too disappointing a reply and that you appreciate our position. Thank you once again for taking the trouble to contact us.
Kind regards
Vince Mercer

well, it's not good news, is it? (sob) but it says my 'complaint' has been logged and could be used for future marketing decisions... so if enough of us do some whining to nestle, it might just work in the long run. come on, people!

Even if it was re-released and made to exactly the original recipe, people would still stay it wasn't the same - nothing we remember nostalgically is ever as good if it comes back.
true, it'd be pale in comparison to the original bar. but still - something's better than nothing. i'd settle for any version!
Me too.
Cany you imagine what it would taste like if Nestle re-launched it? remember, Rowntrees originally made it. Nestle will put cheap and nasty chocolate on it and fill it with dry old coconut and pretend cherries.
I agree with that. So many of the chocolate bars we have these days have changed, and not for the better either. I dread to think what it might taste like manufactured to today's standards.
Even if it was coated in white chocolate?
cabana didn't have white chocolate
i'd have it any way - i just want Cabana back on our shelves!

That's the point - you said you'd have it back in 'any version', so Kev asked if you'd have a white choc version.
Well no I wouldn't. Every time I mention a choc I like why does white choc get a mention when everyone in the world knows I don't consider that white stuff to be chocolate.
THAT'S THE POINT
And a layer of mint creme.
Now you're on my wavelength.
