I went on a diet at New Year, lost three pounds while I was on holiday and have gradually put them back on since  My excuse is that I had flu and had a bad fall on some ice, so couldn't go to the gym. I have since recovered from both so it's no excuses anymore...

my main problem is an addiction to coke, dr. pepper and lucozade. by  cutting these out completely i started to lose it really quick. otherwise, i can only recommend eating healthy and getting some exercise... a daily walk really makes the difference.

weight training and the gym wont work for me either - muscle does weigh more.

I've been under too much stress recently to worry about my weight. I daren't weigh myself just yet as I know I've put a bit on. Once I move and settle down I'll go on a proper healthy diet.

I wouldn't worry about muscle you two - better to have muscle than fat!

You're doing a bit too well on your diet wjp - slow down a little!  2 lbs per week is supposed to be the maximum you should lose if you want to keep it off.

(So says she who lost 2 stone last year very slowly and has still managed to put 9 lbs of it back on.....)

ok, i'll ease up a bit. i don't suppose the occasional coke and burger would matter too much.

I see Gillian McKeith has been ordered to drop the Dr bit now after the advertising standards authority say the title misleads the public into thinking she is a qualified doctor.

I have an intense dislike of Gillian McKeith. I think she is obnoxious and rude. These people come to her for help and I can see that she needs to be tough with them and get some very unpalatable truths across to them about how they live their lives and what it's doing to them, but she doesn't have to be so incredible belittling and personally offensive. I also don't think she has to enjoy treating them like that as much as she appears to.

Back on the subject at hand, I am trying to diet the other way. I weigh 8st 11lbs and I'm 5ft 8 inches tall so I could use a bit more meat on my bones.

I agree that she is belittling and so on, I think they ask her to act like that to make her into another 'Anne Robinson' personality. I suppose at the end of the day it makes her stand out more. But she is so horrible to some of the people and never seems to show any emotion.

Does anyone else feel a bit fed up and slightly worried by the number of programmes that are fronted by people who tell you:

 a) how to de-clutter your home

b)how to eat a healthier diet

 c) how to look ten years younger

 d) how to choose a new home

 e) how to clean your home

I think all of these people should mind their own business and let people take responsibility for their own lives and lifestyles.

I can't believe how many TV programmes involve looking in on people's most intimate lives.

I suppose if people are stupid enough to put themselves in the hands of TV producers who want to use them for entertainment, that's their choice. I'm more bothered about the government trying to decide what should and shouldn't go into food - why can't we decide what we want to eat?

People do decide what they want to eat, that's why there's an obesity problem in this country. A lot of people just don't have self control, hence the nanny state.

Yes I do.

It's tiresome having total strangers on the TV trying to tell me how I should live, and getting paid for it too!

It doesn't get them anywhere because I can turn the channel over, (and I do) but they're a pain all the same.

Well if they have no self-control that's their fault. They should sort themselves out instead of whining that the government, or McDonalds, or indeed anyone but them, should do something!

That may be true but it doesn't work, does it. So rather than let people keep stuffing their faces and the NHS take the strain when they cowp it, the government has to act. I don't see how it affects the rest of us?

Because if I want to buy something fatty, or salty, or otherwise unhealthy I should be able to - it doesn't mean I'm going to live on it. Why should I lose my consumer choice just because some lard arse can't stop shovelling crap into their gob?

The government will never be able to ban junk food, the industry is just too big. I wouldn't worry about it. I do agree with them banning advertising to children and so on though.

I saw a show once about 'Fat Tax' where fat people could be taxed more than everyone else - anyone think this is a good idea?

I bet you look wonderful Cherry.

I used to weigh about 79kg and I had curves and I loved them.

Nowadays I don't even weigh as much as my 13 year old daughter and the last skirt I bought her from Tesco was too big for me!
