Title: Wastefulness
Post by: kevvosa on February 10, 2007, 01:46:14 pm
I was in Cafe Nero this morning and noticed someone had left almost a FULL muffin and a 3 quarter full mug of coffee, plus half a cheesecake at the table. These are not cheap items, for a slice of cake in Cafe Nero it costs over 2 pound.

I'm just shocked that people could be so wasteful when paying money like that. As Barbara said once on The Royal Family:

"Oooh Denise, how the other half live".

Have you considered they might not have been enjoying it?

I don't see why people buy things they don't want.

It's a possibility but it's still wasteful. It can't have been that horrible.

They want them when they buy them but if they taste bad they won't eat it just cos they have paid for it.

Obviously they thought so cos they left it.

More like they have money to burn.

So if you buy a sandwich then think it tastes bad would you finish eating it?

Post by: kevvosa on February 10, 2007, 01:57:52 pm
I would never pay a silly price for something that looks like it would taste bad.

That's silly. How can you know what something will taste like until you try it. A lot of things look appetising to the eye but are foul tasting.

Maybe they left for an emergency.

Or wrap it in a napkin. When my grandad was 90 my mam would often find half eaten sandwiches and cakes wrapped in napkins in my grandads pocket. He always said he got full up too easy.

My grandad is like that too. If I paid good money for food I would always try and take it home for someone else if I didn't want it.

I doubt they both thought their cakes were so horrible that they just left them. I bet it was two neurotic thin women who said 'ooh, let's be naughty and have a cake', then took a bite each and said 'I feel so full now' and then went to try and squeeze into a size 6.

I can't understand how you cannot accept someone leaving food. Have you never been for a meal and left part of it,either because you are full or not keen on the taste?

I understand where you're coming from, but many people are brought up not to waste food. There's so much food goes to waste in our country when there's so many people who starve in our country and others that it just doesn't seem right.

Well if I have paid for it what does it matter if I eat it or leave it.

At home I'm very good and put all leftovers in a container in the fridge.  Then I throw them away a couple of days later.

But this wasn't part of it - it was almost all of it. And it's not as if it was some exotic dish they were being daring and trying out; it was a slice of cheesecake, a coffee and a muffin. What can go wrong with that? Also, when you stop in a cafe when out shopping and order something like that, it's normally because you want something to keep you going for a bit, so even if it isn't that great, you have at least a couple of mouthfuls, if only so you don't have to stop again half an hour later.

I agree that if you've paid for it you can do what you want - I just don't see the point of throwing money away. Why didn't they share a cake?

Yeah, that's right, 'nearly everyone' is fat. And it's because they finished a slice of cake. I suppose you got those statistics from the Government Health Authority?

No one is fat for finishing their meals, they are fat because they have no self control. If you're not hungry then don't buy any food, surely we are all intelligent enough to judge whether we feel hungry or not when we buy something?

When you're an adult you're responsible for your own actions. Upbringing is a big factor but you can't live in the shadow of your parents all your life.

When I was at university there was a lecturer who always bought two sandwiches and left one unopened on the table. I have no idea why he did this. He had a funny name too, I don't want to type his full name here but you will see it on a link here. His initials are DH.
