We had quite a lot of snow here in Peterborough. It started at about 7.30am and continued all day until about 4pm. The college where I work sent all the younger, full-time students home at 2pm because many of them come on college buses from remote outlying villages and it was feared that if the snow got really bad they would be stranded in the wilds of the Fens. Some staff and students didn't make it in at all because they come from further down the A1 where it was very bad.
My daughter, fifty miles away in Northampton, had five or six inches of snow and all of her lectures were cancelled.
This gives me an idea for a story. Lecture cancelled - Uni girl gets bus - bus breaks down - girl has to walk - naughty teacher comes along in snowmobile - offers lift - takes her back to his impromptu igloo for some icy fun!
Here on Anglesey we had about half a centimeter of snow this morning and they cancelled school and my daughters guide meeting this evening.
What can I tell you? Even the smallest amount of snow causes mayhem and panic here! Coming from around the Yorkshire Dales as I do, where 6 foot drifts were a common occurence (at least once almost every year) this makes no sense to me. But snow is very rare here and I suppose what you're not used to.......... Ah well, I am sure I would find driving in Yorkshire snow difficult now after all this time.
Over on the mainland there is quite a lot of snowfall each year, I'm not that far from Snowdon really, only about 30 miles, but on this end of the island there is hardly any. It's a bit odd really as you go further down the island the snow gets heavier and heavier the closer to the mainland you get. Most peculiar to see.
hmm... it warmed up. where the hell is this big freeze i keep hearing about?
In Birmingham, that's where! The snow was bad yesterday but seemed to have died down this morning - then about midday it started again and came down very heavily until about an hour ago. It took me three hours to get home and I work about four miles away! If it's the same on Monday I'm staying at home.
I do too, but ours is all gone now.
Still really cold and the ground is frozen too, that doesn't happen often.
Well obviously wouldn't want to go into too much detail, but we live as far away from the mainland as it's possible to get and not get your feet wet. There is a nature reserve on the topmost part of the island and we live quite close to that. It's lovely. Peaceful, quiet and full of tourists in the summer.
This is Anglesey. The windmill is not far from where I live.
I am sorry if I wasn't supposed to say where I live or if I am mentioning it too much. But it is lovely here.
If you'd like me to stop mentioning it you only have to say.
Isn't it a bit obvious with a nem like that they make jewellery.
You'd think so, but apparently not. I remember giving the address to a credit cars company once and the bloke said 'jewellery? As in jewellery that you wear?' I felt like saying 'no, the jewellery you sprinkle on your porridge'.
Do they make......no perhaps not.
I love living by the sea.
South Stack is a stunning place, the kids keep trying to get me to walk down to the lighthouse, but I'm too chicken. I watched last summer while they went down with my brother, but they couldn't make me go with them. I stood firm against their name calling and teasing.
Sat on the cliff top and had an ice-cream. Much more civilised.
We go down to Cemlyn Bay to walk the dog, and watch the seals.

I am now wondering if that is how those famous people get diamonds in their teeth. They are simply stuck there, permanently glued by old bits of porridge.
bounty hunter
Andy yes everyone. I CAN say it properly!
Andy who?
Do you ever go to Llanfairpwllgwyngllgogerychwryndrobwllllantysilliogogogoch? Andy yes everyone. I CAN say it properly!![]()
Not often Bounty, (the kids can say it but I wouldn't want to get lost on the way there and have to ask for directions!) but there is a Pringles shop there with a Julian graves section I shop in quite a bit. They have a different offer on almost every week and I buy dried fruit and nuts for the children to take in their lunchboxes. They sell dried bananas that are lovely.
The best Welsh place name is Llantwit Major
I've got a friend who lives there! It's only a small place.
