according to bookies who say the Fab Four could bag the Top 10 chart
slots on downloads alone.
The news comes as the band's entire catalogue
could be released after their record company Apple Corps finally
settled a dispute with Apple Inc, which runs online music shop iTunes,
reports the Daily Express.
Analyst Mark Mulligan told the paper: "Beatles
music could not be sold on iTunes until that happened, so it was an
important step."
Bookies William Hill placed odds of 10/1 on The
Beatles taking places one to 10 at the same time in the singles chart,
which includes download sales.
Hey Jude is the favourite to be the first No 1, on odds of 8/1, while Yesterday is second favourite on 9/1.
William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams told the
paper: "Beatlemania was at its height in the mid 60s, but making their
songs available for download could spark a whole new outbreak.
"It's highly likely that the songs will be made
available to be downloaded. There's a very good chance that the whole
Top 10 will be Beatles songs."

Good grief. Doesn't say much for the music of today.
It's happened before. When record companies cottoned on to the potential of releasing old material on CD back in the eighties, the charts were flooded with stuff from the past.

Yes it wasn't that long ago all those Elvis songs were re-released. I think (if the Beatles do become legally downloadable) now the chart includes downloads it will be flooded by the Beatles.
A couple of weeks ago on Chris Moyles' show they plugged old songs to get them back in the chart and it worked. So you don't have to sell a huge amount of downloads / singles to get in the chart these days, and it does seem easy to influence.

hehe. i'm nearly 30 - and my fave bands/singers are the beach boys, harry nilsson and gerry rafferty. i was born in the wrong decade...

Oh help! I can't stand the Beatles. Definitely agree that their day, like the Dinosaur's, is long gone.
Maybe I'm just not old enough.
Now if it were The Damned, The Kinks or The Clash, that would be different.

I like some of The Beatles stuff. It's hard not to when you've grown up with it. I love Yesterday and Something and Here Comes The Sun. Elenor Rigby is another favourite.
However, I am more of a Rolling Stones fan and if we're talking 1960s, I love The Animals, The Kinks and The Yardbirds. I think For your Love is an amazing track.
I also like The Clash and some of The Damned and bands like The Undertones, The Jam, The Boomtown Rats, David Bowie, Joy Division and really old stuff like Dylan, Joan Baez and old folky bands like The Highwaymen. i would be delighted to see any of these back in the charts.
i also think that, if we're talking downloads, there's a good chance old stuff from Pink Floyd like Dark Side of The Moon and Wish You were Here will become popular again.

I absolutely LOVED The Undertones, and I have Feargal Sharkey singing 'She Moved Through The Fair' on my MP3 player. It's a beautiful rendition.
Do you remember the band 'New Musik' Oldspice? They did 'Living By Numbers' and 'Straight Lines'. They were never immensly popular but I used to love their music. Just wondered with some of the other groups you listed if you'd ever heard of them.
