It's really annoying when your favourite brands and products are taken over and changed completely.
Years after Nestle took over Rowntrees, I still get mad about the way they have destroyed good products like Toffee Crisp and Lion Bar and turned them into revolting crap.
Errrrrrrrrrrrrr,Smurfboy...................who said that Lions was going to
collapse?
It wasn't.
You are mistaken.
If you'd taken the time to consult your wise father,Papa Smurf,he would
have told you that Cadbury Treebor Basset purchased Lions as a going
concern, whilst it was still trading successfully.
This was an aquisition of a heathy and prosperous company and NOT a
distressed business. There was no consideration of abolishing the brands
which attracted Cadbury to purchase the company.Nor were there any job
losses, because Emloyees contracts are automatically taken over by the
purchaser in these circumstances.
So it's back to Smurf School for you.And don't eat those Maynards Midget
Gems whilst you're doing your homework, because they're full of e-
numbers and gelatine and will damage your brain.
So why shouldn't they have bought it? Who exactly did you want to stop them from buying it?
Employee contracts 'automatically taken over'? I doubt it. And in any case, I said there would have been job losses if the company had collapsed.

So when you said it was 'an outrage' that this was allowed, what did you mean? If it's now okay, why are you still spouting on?
It is simply irritating that in buying the Company,Cadburys have decided
to roll Lions and Maynards into one, thereby effectively aboilshing Lions'
two most successful and loved products,Midget Gems and Sports Mixture.
I personally don't like Maynards' sweets. But whereas before the consumer
had a choice between the two,now Maynards is the only single option and
I think many would agree that their alternatives are just not as good.
It is akin to Heinz purchasing HP and Daddies and abolishing HP Sauce so
that they can cut cost and make more profit by just selling Daddies, with
the consumers' views going out of the window.
If they wanted to abolish Lions products, they should not have bought the
Company,full stop.
You may not be a fan of Lions' products but many people are, hence the
poll instigated by 'the pink sugarmouse'.I also support the comments
about Aero Bars,Toffee Crisp etc. made above. We are losing consumer
choice in society at the behest of greedy fat cats. Our world famous
products like Crunchie and Chocolate Buttons will be extinct next.
And by the way, when you get back to Smurfland, you may wish to read
this link to the Government website which explains the Transfer of
Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, before you go
spouting off about something you clearly know nothing about, you silly little blue man.
I know nothing about it? How the hell would you know? I know that: a) mergers and acquisitions almost invariably lead to job losses AT SOME STAGE and b) You say I'M missing the point, but you clearly never read what I said in the first place - that there would be LESS job losses from an acquisition than a company collapse.
But I wouldn't recommend that any others in the Forum read them unless
you're stuggling to get to sleep tonight, because they are completely
'drop-dead' boring.[/QUOTE]
For God's sake, this country is currently involved in a bloody war that may yet be proved illegal. I had a leaflet through my door the other day about moves to cut infant mortality rates in my council ward - in 21st Century Britain. You really expect people to be up in arms about the future of Midget f**king Gems?!
The Blue Boy started it,not me.
My original post was entirely appropriate and topical.
Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.
If he is not on a sufficiently high intellectual plain to understand the topic or
contribute in a constructive manner, then he should stick to his Smurfland
dot-to-dot books
If you were on a 'high intellectual plain' you'd know to leave a space after an apostrophe.
I understand the topic completely. I just think you're short-sighted and stupid.
I hope this doesn't turn into Midget Gem warfare!
Debating is healthy isn't it?
I just want them to bring back the liquorice ones.
A while back I did complain to cadburys on replacing this with blackcurrant but they stated that they had no intentions of bringing back the liquorice ones
I like Midget Gems as they are now... Cadbury owned Lions years before they changed them to maynards. The name makes people think they taste different..Other than the Liquorice one they are exactly the same!
I pick all the black ones out and eat them first.
I used to when they were liquorice flavoured. I think I'll keep my money in my pocket from now on.
As smurfboy said there are more important things in life. No-one could or really should argue with that. After all at the end of the day it is only a chocolate or sweet product and it's demise will not adversely affect the state of the nation.
But this is what we're all here on this forum for though isn't it? To discuss the yummy stuff we love, and all the stuff we used to love that isn't here any more? All too often the reason it isn't being made now is that one company bought the other company and then changed or discontinued a lot of the products because they were not 'economically viable', or did not 'fit in' with the product surveys that had been done. If there is a chance (however slim) to save one of those products then I will do what I can.
I will sign your petition DoKtor. I am not sure how much good it will do, large companies do not seem to want to hear what we have to say no matter what they say to the contrary, but I will sign it anyway.
Velvet.
You're welcome DoKtor.
I signed the petition.
