Title: New shoes
Post by: oldspice on December 03, 2006, 01:52:11 pm

I spend a huge amount of time on my feet and I also walk everywhere so I need comfortable shoes. I have been trying to find some comfortable but stylish shoes for work and leisure.

Today I went into an expensive shoe shop and found just what I was looking for. I asked the assistant if they stocked half sizes (I expected them to because they were expensive) but she said those shoes only come in full sizes.

"Have you got these in a size 5 then please?" I enquired

"I'll have a look Madam" She replied politely and went off to search for me.

Some minutes she returned and said "Sorry, we have size 3 or size 8" She said it as though asking a question, as if I should then choose between 3 or 8. I smiled a bit (trying not to laugh) and said "No thanks, can't make use of either of those".

A snooty older assistant standing nearby snarled "YOU JUST CAN'T PLEASE SOME PEOPLE HOWEVER HARD YOU TRY!"

My husband and I left at that point, clutching each other, helpless with laughter.

I later got TWO pairs of comfortable shoes in M&S.

If anyone wants to avoid the place in future it was Westgate House Department Store in Peterborough.

You should have said 'I'll have the left in a 3 and the right in an 8 please'.

She would have given me them without blinking as well!

This reminds me of when I asked in Holland and Barrett if they had dried strawberries. 'No, but they've got loads of fresh ones on the market' said the girl with a big smile on her face. Did she expect me to put them in the airing cupboard for a fortnight?

This is symptomatic of an underlying weakness in customer services in this country.    /

I would love to come in at this point and give a positive example of some good customer service I have encountered recently but sadly even I can't think of an example  how sad.

We are not good at it in this country.  I had good customer service recently when I shopped at Gentlemen's club for some jeans and a pullover.  The 18 year old assistant was quite sweet and attended to my every whim.  Well almost

What, did you make him measure your inside leg?
