The Labour Party has chosen the outspoken left-wing MP Michael Foot as its new leader.
In the second round of voting by party MPs Mr Foot
defeated his main rival Denis Healey by 139 votes to 129 - an
unexpectedly large margin.
The result has surprised political commentators who had predicted Mr Healey would win.
Mr Healey, who served as chancellor in James Callaghan's
government until its defeat last year, had won the first round easily,
with 112 votes to Mr Foot's 83.

So a leader is only worthy of praise if he wins an election? What about his policies, his principles and his integrity?
The worst thing labour ever did was to join Bush in invading Iraq!

remember this, in a time when voter where heading to the centre,
in elecetion term *** labour in 1980 should of had someone l more centre than left!

Speculation is growing that Leonid Brezhnev, who has ruled the Soviet Union for the past two decades, has died.
Suspicions that a senior Communist party figure had died

controversial novel Lady Chatterley's Lover - a total of 200,000 copies
- on the first day of publication.
DH Lawrence's sexually explicit novel was published in
Italy in 1928 and in Paris the following year. It has been banned in
the UK - until now.
Last month, after a dramatic and much-publicised trial, Penguin won the right to publish the book in its entirety.
For those who can manage to find a copy, it is available in paperback for 3s 6d.

It's totally mad to say he had the most left wing manifesto in history. That simply can't be verified. H was a calm and rational contrast to rabid MrsThatcher. What are you basing your theories on? Something you have read on a website again? Were you even born in 1980? I was an adult voter at the time. We needed someone like Foot in the Labour Party to remind us what socialism was all about. A party should stand by its principles and its ideology. If it abandons these in order to win an election you have a Government based on lies and we all know what that leads to....

If Mrs thacther lost that 1979 eletion! socicalism would of been here to stay in UK, But she did win, and so even if mr foor was a great Left wing leader HE WAS NOT RIGHT FOR THAT TIME PERIOD!
the puiblic are stubing there will not move so you have to go to them,
IE have left wing ideas while be on the centre ground
