I see that someone on ebay was selling a calculator for 99p and wanted people to do a local pick up for it! And he recently relisted a VHS tape which he originally wanted 5.00 for, and what does he do? Ups the price to 10.00!
-
I can see the sense in relisting an item at the same starting price (in the hope someone spots it who didn't first time round), but to double the price? And for 99p you could probably buy a new calculator from a cheapo shop.
-
Some ebayers really baffle me. They expect such ridiculous prices. If I'm selling something I will always check how much it has already gone for in ended items and put an appropriate starting bid.
-
Poundland sell scientific calculators that seem perfectly ok.

I am wary of offering pick-up as an option. How do you know they're not going to be carrying a baseball bat?

Last night someone bidded on four of my items just to leave me bad feedback
It was someone using another account and wanted to have a go at me simply because I told him he was charging too much for something. It just shows the mentalitiy of some people in the world - how childish can you get?
I've reported it to ebay but I don't know if they'll remove the bad feedback. Before this my feedback was 100%. And I doubt they will realise that it was someone with two accounts, even though I have plenty of evidence to point the finger.
-
oh, the bastard! i live in fear of losing my 100% to someone like that every day.
-
I used to panic about losing my 100% rating, but as Lou said to me, it's almost a relief when you get your first negative. People can't threaten you into refunds by saying they'll wreck your rating.
-
i guess that's true. it always has me a little on edge.
-
I'm not too worried because anyone looking at my feedback will see they clearly only bidded to get at me.
-
I have over 20 negatives all left for me by non paying bidders. I don't care anymore and it certainly doesn't put people off buying from me. Ebay say you are allowed to have multiple accounts. Some people have 10 accounts from the same address and this is allowed.
-
I'm currently watching someone's item just to give them false hope, as they left me bad feedback. Is that petty?
-
Of course it is but if it makes you feel better then it's fine.
-
Speaking of negative fedback I just got my 27th .
-
Lou do you sell a lot on ebay? I only sell from time to time and buy occasionally.
Last night I got a message from the person who used a fake account to give me negative feedback, saying he will report ME to ebay for accusing him of doing it (I mentioned when I left bad feedback to his fake account that it was him, and then he changed his seller name!)
-
Yes I sell a lot on there. I have had over 18,000 sales now so you can see why 27 negatives doesn't seem much of a big deal to me.
-
What do you sell Lou?
-
It never fails to amaze me what people buy on ebay. My friend managed to sell an empty margarine tub for £3 because it had the expiration date of 06/06/06.
-
What do you sell Lou?
Collectibles for geeks.
-
Has anyone ever done any commission selling? I've been approached by someone today and I'm not sure what to do.

I think ebay has a rule against that and you can report them. I had someone message me last week promoting his website and reported it.
Do you really sell collectibles for geeks lou? What sort? I'm always on the look out for old VHS horror tapes as some can go for a lot of money.
-
It's through the eBay Trading Assistant programme, so it's perfectly okay on that score - I'm just not sure now if I want to do it.
-
My friend did it a few times as he has high feedback but he said the people he sold for got twisty over how little he got for their items. I think people are fogetting ebays good days are over for selling and you have to be happy with what you get.
-
This bloke has 43 negatives which I think is quite a lot - but then again, that's out of about 4500.
-
Negatives are absolute rubbish. Doesn't mean he is a bad ebayer. Read his feedback. Anyone can see all mine come from non paying bidders with less than 20 feedback. People leave neg feedback out of spite most of the time.
-
I got my negative feedback removed by ebay now. I'm gonna get the person who did it by opening an unpaid item dispute, and when they don't pay they will get 4 unpaid items strikes.
-
They need 3 strikes from 3 different people to be thrown off.
-

My bad feedback for them was also removed, so this means they can just carry on using that account.
-
well, it looks as if i'm getting my first negative feedback. i sold a dvd boxset today to an emerican who doesn't understand region coding. i've tried to explain, but he just wont listen. so what do i do - refuse to send it ('cause it wont play over there) and get a negative, or send it anyway and receive a negative because the nimrod can't get it to work? what is it with americans and ebay? if it's not the £'s to $'s conversion they're not underatanding, it's something equally as simple. grr!
-
Send it to him, and when he complains point out that your listing states which region the DVD is for. He might give you negative feedback, but as you say, he could do that anyway if you refuse to send it out and he takes umbridge. At least this way you will have the money from the sale.
-
The one who left me bad feedback was from America too.
-
I personally avoid those who hide their feedback. If they hide it then they obviously have something to hide. We were selling a car and we had a member who bidded on it. about 30mins before the auction was due to end he sent us a message saying he had bidded on the wrong item, and could we react the bid. At the time I didn't know how to and so I just waited.
When the auction finished there was no more bids and his was the winning bid. I sent via ebay a non payment which if he had clicked on that he had agreed not to purchase the item we would of been reimburesed with our losses (about £30) but because the prat clicked on he had agreed to purchase the item we are now out of pocket of £30. ebay say that there is nothing they can do.
Apparently he did it again with somebody else and no his feedback is private.
-
I was watching three shirts this week - only Topman and Next, nothing designer - and they went from £7 to £15!!! I was stunned. All three are still in the shops as far as I know; you could probably buy them for less new in the sales!

Good news on this - eBay have just announced they are restricting the use of private feedback. From now on you cannot list items for sale if you keep your feedback private (although you can still bid on auctions). I personally think the option should be removed altogether, but this is better than nothing.
-
Well that's better than nothing.

I see a lot of stuff go for good prices but then wonder if the winner pays up. Lately when any of my stuff goes for a good price the winner will wait a few days then tell me they bid by mistake.
