I have just enjoyed a fantastic weekend in York. As part of the fun, we took a 'green bus' ride around the city to see the sights and listen to an excellent tour guide describing events in York's history. The ride included a glimpse of Terry's Chocolate factory, now closed. It is a listed building (1930s Art Deco) with a clock tower.
We were able to see the Victorian part of the city that prospered due to the chocolate industry (Rowntrees were based in York too). The houses are beautiful. sadly, there are very few chocolate shops in York but we made up for it by buying fudge that we saw being made.
What really impressed me was that when walking along the street I did not see a single person spit on the pavement (endemic in Peterborough), I did not hear a single car driving around with fifteen speakers blasting tuneless thumping to passers-by (also endemic in Peterborough) and I did not see any enormously fat people (every other passer-by in Peterborough). In fact, it was a beautiful, clean city with friendly, clean people. Not a bit of litter in sight.

I did not find it touristy at all. Yes, there are tour buses and the historical places are well marketed but it was all very tasteful. It's just so clean and beautiful. I would say to anyone who likes hitory and architecture - pay York a visit - and the shops are fantastic too.

"I have never lived there but my mam did. I live in Leeds now."
How can you be born somewhere and not live there?

If you want to be pedantic then yes, I lived there while I was in the hospital.
I was born in Burton, but only because there was no space in Lichfield hospital for my mother! So you can be born somewhere and not live there.

You are nit picking again bounty.
