Des Lynam is leaving at Christmas. Who would you like to see take his place?

Tom O'Connor.

Des claims they offered to move production to London for him, but that he couldn't face putting the crew out of work. I heard they wouldn't move for him.

Interesting thought, but I think he's considered a bit of a rising star in the BBC, so I don't see them letting him go too easily - plus he might be a bit inexperienced.

I don't think Carol would go for the idea of another woman on Countdown. I like the Tom O'Connor suggestion though.

at risk of being beaten to death with a barrage of handbags, hosting countdown is not a womans place. it needs to be a greying middle-aged man.

Rick Wakeman is good in dictionary corner, I wonder if he would be good as the host?

Maybe Countdown should have guest hosts, so they change each week?

I didn't mean permanently, I meant testing different people out. Then the presenters can see what it's like and the viewers get to see different people. They could then make the viewers vote for their favourite presenter

Gyles Brandreth, Alan Titchmarsh, Michael Aspel and Eamomn Holmes are all currently in the frame. Of those I think Aspel is probably the best choice, but for me Tom O'Connor is still the best option. He's always good on Dictionary Corner, plus he used to do Crosswits so he understands the workload of a daily quiz show - I don't think Des Lynam did.

Magnus Magnusson has been diagnosed with cancer and I was thinking he would have been a good replacement for Des Lynam.

Noel Edmonds, who lost out to Des Lynam for the job, has said in today's paper that he thinks Tom O'Connor should get the job. Didn't someone else suggest that?

I don't think Noel Edmonds would be good on Countdown. Nor Eamonn Holmes!
