Title: Fears
Post by: loulou on September 02, 2006, 02:19:54 am
Are you scared of spiders? I am terrified of spiders and moths. I believe my fear will have come from my mother who is also scared. Do you believe our fears are passed down from  a parent?

I don't mind moths but I'm petrified of spiders.  I can put up with small ones and even fairly large spindly ones but those big hairy ones - it makes me shudder to even think about them.  Wouldn't kill one though!

My fear is of trains, train stations, railway lines and railway crossings. I have to stand on the platform with my back to a wall miles from the platform edge. I can't leave that spot until the train is in the station. Once on the train I'm Ok but getting off is a trauma too.

If people are walking along the platform close to the edge or (as I have seen on several occasions) using bicycles, scooters or skateboards on the platform, I practically have a panic attack.

When we have to approach and pass over a railway crossing (loads and loads of them out in the country round here) I get a big fear rush and the family think it is hysterically funny.

My mother is terrified of pigeons. One fell down our dining room chimney once and you'd have thought there was a burglar in the house from the screaming

I feel sorry for people who are scared of birds because it's so hard to avoid them

My phobia is heights.  I can do mountains and planes, but I cant stand to look over carparks or go up ladders.  I can sympathise with your trains thing Oldspice.  As a sufferer of Tourette's I sometimes get the urge to throw myself under a train, or at least imagine what it would be like and that freaks me out.  The urge of self preservation is fortunately stronger, so I'm OK, but it's still scary.

Bounty did you know there is a Tourette's sufferer coming into Neighbours? I'll be interested to know what you think of their portrayal of the condition.

OK, I'll look out for them.  We got good exposure with Pete off big Brother, but fortunately I don't have the swearing thing (coprolalia).

Doesn't that mean you are fearless?

There is actually a medical condition that makes you fearless - but it's not a good thing. For example, people with it don't fear putting their hand in the fire or jumping out of the window etc.

I never thought of it that way before.
