Title: A cider a day keeps the dr away?
Post by: loulou on August 29, 2006, 12:35:01 am
Scientists in Glasgow are examining whether drinking cider may offer the same health benefits as eating apples.

The researchers have found that English cider apples have high levels of "phenolic antioxidants" - linked to protection against strokes and cancer.

I'm afraid this is bollocks.  There is no way an alcoholic drink like cider can possibly be more beneficial than eating apples and other fruit.  It's a bit like the myth of drinking wine.  Yes, if you really don't eat fruit then the antioxidant properties of wine are beneficial but you should eat fruit instead if you can.

I suppose the researchers were wasting their time then Bounty. They should just have come straight to you for their information instead of carrying out scientific research.

Do they not have something more worthwhile to research that if cider has health benefits? They must have run out of things that really do need researching.
