Title: Horrid speed cameras :(
Post by: bethypoos on August 10, 2006, 10:10:07 pm

Ok - so today of all days you would think the police had more important things to do but obviously not. Ok, so what actually is the speed limit on a dual carriageway? Does anyone know the Warwick bypass (A46)?

And...do you get caught if you're heading towards the van and camera or does it get the car from behind.

Yet another thing i'm going to fret about...

isnt it 70mph on a carriageway?

and legally the camera can only zap you from behind.

Speed kills. It's the job of the police to catch all law breakers.

It's the slow dodery old drivers that cause more accidents i'm sure. Motorways should definitely be 80mph.

Yes, but a dual carriage way is not a motorway. We have a dula carriage way that runs through the middle of our town and it is definitely not safe to drive at 80MPH.

Not wishing to be picky, but surely the traffic police don't pop and help out the anti-terrorism squad when things get busy?

That chart makes no sense what-so-ever to me. Anyway, I don't care what other countries do. I live in this one. I would actually REDUCE the speed limit to 20 MPH in residential areas and enforce a 30MPH limit through all towns, villages and city centres.

So would I.  I have seen the results of far too many accidents caused by speed.  Most people have no idea of stopping distances and don't realise that when people are pulling out of a driveway or minor road, a car on the main road that will be visible at 30 mph or less will be completely out of sight if it is speeding.  This is how the vast majority of accidents are caused.

Thanks GC. I thought I was going to be very unpopular with those proposals so it's nice to get some support!

I know smurfboy - i just thought maybe the police would be at the airports or something! Mind you - they need to be out making money. Where does the money from speeding tickets actually go anyway? It's certainly not on mending the roads.

I've been severely told off by all my friends and given no sympathy for speeding. But...i still think motorways should be 80. Dual carriageways maybe 70 - but i agree about residential and towns being 30. 20 is too slow though - it's physically hard to drive at thatif the road is clear.

I don't know if this is true, but heard the only thing the police were allowed to spend the income from speed cameras on was new cameras!

Not if you try hard enough. Have you heard of third gear?
