Before putting flowers in water do you cut the stems on a slant or crush them? Also do you add anything to the water? I cut on a slant and add sugar to the water but I don't know why I do this.

I cut the stems and add flower food because it says to on the packet.

I can't say I ever buy flowers. But I have a yukka plant in the kitchen that gets well fed with water and sunlight.

I cut the stems on a slant and add flower food if there is any.  If not, I add lemonade.

I read that the bubbles go up the stem and make the flowers last longer.

Yes I read that too and I think aspirin has the same effect.

i use asprin if noflower food

I find aspirin sprinkled on the toop of the water very good at reviving goldfish when they are having strokes and heart attacks.

I'm with Lou on this one! That is exactly what I do. Not that I get bought flowers often.... Usually just buy them myself, at least I get what I like that way!

I cannot remember the last time anyone bought me flowers. I think it was about 1997 my mam sent me some when I fell down the stairs.

MY hubbie often buys me flowers and sometimes he decides to put them in a vase (if I'm at work and going to be a few hours). He doesn't trim the leaves (if they're roses) or the stems and just rams them into a vase of water and puts them on the table! Got to love him for the thought though.
