I'm English, and proud to be English. Mainly because the majority of people here are nice and kind.
I don't think about myself as British as I don't particularly want to be lumped in with the Irish/Welsh/Scottish. As far as I am concerned they want to be 'free' so let them :D

Despite how so many people hate Americans, they are much nicer and friendly than us English.

When I see some of our beautiful countryside and lovely old buildings I am proud to be a custodian but actually being British, like sticking a flag on yourself and being willing to stick one on someone who is not - well I am not proud in that sense.

If you say British, ignoring the tatooed dim-wits, I think of the sense of fairplay and honesty.
Ok so England (and Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland) didn't win the world cup at football, but generally our footballers would be disgusted to use some of the tactics employed by other teams to gain advantage.
Before out unfortunate toadying to the US administration Britain was thought of as being honest and reliable to deal with on the World stage. Yes we have had our dark past too but we have by and large tried to atone for it.

We DID stop Hitler! OK, so we should have perhaps done something earlier but we warned him if he invaded Poland we would declare war and we did.
Slavery? We could not have contributed to that without the help of some African tribesmen wh were willing to sell their members to slave traders. We abolished slavery long before America.
Hong Kong? We created a wealthy territory. OK, the politics was all wrong but we've done what we said we would do - leased it for 100 years then handed it back.
Do not forget, many brave Brits volunteered to serve in the Spanish Civil War too, wading in when many nations stood back and let facisim (helped by the Catholic Church) get a grip on the Spanish nation.
On reflection, we have a lot to be proud of.

There is so much more going on behind the scenes than you and I will ever know. Yes, the killing of innocents is wrong but Israel is not waging war for the sake of it.
Read up on BOTH sides.
